ROYAL SOCIETY SIX CORD CORDIHET, Large Ball; Size 20: 4 balls of White or Ecru.

Steel Crochet Hook No. 10.

Centerpiece measures 14 inches square; each Place Mat 10 inches square;

Each Bread and Butter Mat 6 inches square and each Glass Mat 4 inches square.

GAUGE: Each motif measures 2 inches square.

CENTERPIECE-First Motif . . . Starting at center, ch 5. Join with sl st.

1st rnd: 8 sc in ring, sl st in 1st sc.

2nd rnd: Ch 3, 2 dc in joining st, * ch 2, dc in next sc, ch 2, 3 dc in next sc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2. Join.

3rd rnd: Sl st in next dc, ch 3, 4 dc in same st as last sl st, * ch 5, skip next dc, sc in next dc, ch 5, skip next dc, 5 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

4th rnd: Ch 4, 2-tr cluster in joining st- to make a cluster, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, make 2 tr in same st, thread over and draw through all loops on hook- * (ch 2, skip 1 dc, 3-tr cluster' in next dc) twice; ch 3, tr in next sp, ch 7, tr in next sp, ch 3, 3-tr cluster in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

5th rnd: * (Sc in next cluster, ch 3, sl st in last sc -a picot- 2 sc in next sp) 3 times; sc in next tr, 4 sc in next ch-7 sp, in 4th ch of same ch-7 sp make 2 sc, picot and sc; 4 sc in same sp, sc in next tr, 2 sc in next sp. Repeat from * around. Join. Break off.

SECOND MOTIF . . . Work as for First Motif until 4th rnd is complete.

5th rnd: (Sc in next cluster, picot, 2 sc in next sp) 3 times; sc in next tr, 4 sc in next ch-7 sp, in 4th ch of same ch-7 sp make 2 sc, ch 1, sl st in corner picot of First Motif, ch 1, sl st in last sc on Second Motif, sc in same ch as last sc, 4 sc in same sp, sc in next tr, 2 sc in next sp. Complete as for First Motif, joining next 4 picots as previous picot was joined. Break off.

Join 7 rows of 7 motifs, joining to adjacent sides as Second Motif was joined to First Motif.

PLACE MAT (Make 2) ... Work as for Centerpiece, joining 5 rows of 5 motifs.

BREAD and BUTTER MAT (Make 2). . . Work as for Centerpiece, joining 3 rows of 3 motifs.

GLASS MAT (Make 2) ... Work as for Centerpiece, joining 2 rows of 2 motifs.
