Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

GAUGE: 4 sps or 4 bls =; 1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch.

MOTIF ... Ch 75 to measure 6 1/2 inches, having 12 ch to 1 inch.

1st row: Starting at A on chart, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 17 ch - 6 bls made; (ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch-sp made) 4 times; dc in next 3 ch - bl made; make 2 sps, 1 bl, 4 sps, 6 bls. Ch 3, turn.

2nd row: Skip first dc, dc in next 3 dc- starting bl over bl made; ch 5, skip next 5 dc, dc in next dc-bar over 2 bls made; make another bar, ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc - sp over bl made; 2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc - bl over sp made; make another bl, ch 2, dc in next dc - sp over sp made; make 2 more sps, 2 bls, 3 sps, 2 bls, 1 sp, 2 bars, dc in last 2 dc, dc in next ch - bl over bl at end of row made. Ch 3, turn.

3rd row: Make a starting bl, ch 2, dc in center ch of bar - sp over first half of bar made; 2 dc in same bar, dc in next dc - bl over last half of bar made; make 1 sp, ch 5, skip next dc, dc in next dc - bar over last half of bar and next sp made; make 1 bar, 1 bl, 6 sps, 1 bl, 1 bar, ch 5, skip next dc, dc in center ch of next bar - bar over sp and first half of next bar made; ch 2, dc in next dc - sp over last half of bar made; make 1 bl, 1 sp, 1 bl. Ch 3, turn.

4th row: Make 1 bl, ch 5, skip next 3 dc, dc in next de bar over 1 sp and 1 bl made; make 1 bl, 5 dc in next bar, dc in next dc - 2 bls over bar made; make 1 sp, ch 5, skip next 3 dc, dc in next dc - bar over last half of bar and next bl made; make 1 bl, 4 sps, 1 bl, ch 5, dc in center ch of next bar - bar over bl and first half of next bar made; make 1 sp, 3 bls, ch 5, skip next 3 dc, dc in next dc - bar over bl and sp made; make 1 bl. 5th row: Make 1 bl, 2 sps, dc in next 3 dc - bl over bl made; make 3 more bls, 2 sps, 1 bl, 4 sps, 1 bl, 2 sps, 4 bls, 2 sps, 1 bl. Ch 3, turn.

6th row: Make 1 bl, ch 5, skip next dc, dc in next dc - bar over 2 sps made; make 4 bls, 1 bar, 1 sp, 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl, 1 sp, 1 bar, 4 bls, 1 bar, 1 bl. Ch 5, turn.

7th row: Skip first 3 dc, dc in next dc - starting sp over bl made; make 1 bl, 1 bar, 3 bls, 1 sp, 1 bar, 1 bl, 2 sps, 1 bl, 1 bar, 1 sp, 3 bls, 1 bar, 1 bl, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, dc in top of turning chain - sp over bl at end of row made. Ch 5, turn.

8th row: Skip first dc, dc in next dc - starting sp over sp made; make 1 bl, 1 sp, 2 bars, 1 bl, 1 sp, 1 bar, 2 bls, 1 bar, 1 sp, 1 bl, 2 bars, 1 sp, 1 bl, ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch - sp over sp at end of row made. Ch 5, turn.

Starting with 9th row, follow chart to top. Break off and fasten.

For Small Cloth make 10 rows of 10 motifs.

For Large Cloth make 12 rows of 10 motifs.

Block motifs to measurements and sew them neatly together.

BORDER . . . Attach thread to any st.

1st rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place, sc evenly around entire cloth, making 3 sc in each of the 4 corners. Join with sl st to first sc.

2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in each corner sc. Join.

3rd rnd: With right side of work facing and working from left to right, * insert hook in next sc to the right and complete an sc. Repeat from * around. Join.

Break off and fasten. Press lightly.
