Coats Mercer-Crochet No. 30. 5 balls. White or Ecru.

Milwards steel crochet hook No. 10 (if your crochet is loose use a size finer hook, if tight use a size larger hook). Above quantity is sufficient for one chairback and two armrests.

Tension: 3 sps and 3 rows = 1 in.

Measurements: Chairback - 16 1/2 in. x 22 in. Armrest - 11 1/2 in. x 14 in.

Ch-chain.

Sp - space = 3 ch, miss 3 ch or tr, tr into next ch or tr.

Blk - block = 5 tr, plus 4 tr for each additional bik in group.

Cross = Miss 2 sts, 1 tr into next st, 1 ch, inserting hook from behind last tr work 1 tr into first of 2 sts missed.

3 tr cluster = Leaving the last loop of each on hook work 3 tr into next st, thread over and draw through all loops on hook.

Cluster bar = 4 ch, a 2 tr cluster into 4th ch from hook.

Diamond cluster = A 3 tr cluster, (4 ch, a 2 tr cluster into 4th ch from hook) twice, a 3 tr cluster into same place as first 3 tr cluster.

DIRECTIONS

Chairback

Commence with 192 ch.

1st Row: 1 tr into 12th ch from hook, * 3 ch, miss next 3 ch, 1 tr into next ch; rep from * 44 times more (46 sps), 7 ch, turn.

2nd Row: Miss first tr, 1 tr into next tr (sp made over sp at beginning of row), * 3 ch, 1 tr into next tr (sp made over sp); repeat from * 43 times more, 3 ch, miss next 3 ch, 1 tr into next ch (sp made at end of row), 7 ch, turn.

3rd Row: 6 sps, * leaving last loops of each on hook, work 3 tr into next tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (3 tr cluster made), (4 ch, 2 tr cluster into 4th ch from hook) twice, 3 tr cluster into same place as last 3 tr cluster (diamond cluster made), 1 tr into next tr, 6 sps; repeat from * 4 times more, 7 ch, turn.

4th Row: 6 sps, * 3 ch, 1 sc into centre of diamond, 3 ch, 1 tr into next tr, 6 sps; repeat from * 4 times more, 7 ch, turn.

Now follow diagram A from 5th to 10th row.

11th Row: 6 sps, 1 diamond cluster, 1 tr into next tr, 2 sps, miss next 2 sts, 1 tr into next st, 1 ch, inserting hook from behind last tr work 1 tr into first of 2 sts missed (cross made), 1 tr into next tr, 1 cross, 1 tr into next tr and continue to follow diagram to end of row.

Now follow diagram A to top, then rep last 2 rows 12 times more, omitting turning ch at end of last row, turn.

Edging

1 ss into each of next 5 sts, 4 ch, 2 tr cluster into same place as last ss, (4 ch, 2 tr cluster into 4th ch from hook) twice, 3 tr cluster into same place as first cluster, * 1 tr into next tr, diamond cluster into next tr; repeat from * along side, 1 tr into centre ch of corner sp, 4 ch, 2 tr cluster into 4th ch from hook, 1 tr into same place as last tr (corner turned); rep from first * ending with 1 ss into top of first cl. Fasten off.

Armrest (make 2)

Commence with 128 ch.

1st Row: 1 tr into 12th ch from hook, * 3 ch, miss next 3 ch, 1 tr into next ch; rep from * 28 times more (30 sps), 7 ch, turn.

Now continue to follow diagram B to top, then rep last 2 rows 6 times more, omitting turning ch at end of last row, turn and work edging in same manner as for chairback.

Damp and pin out to measurements.
