JIFFY CROCHETED SCARFS AND MAT This pattern contains directions for making jiffy crocheted scarfs and mats. They can be made of either a double strand or a single strand of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton. They can be combined to form a luncheon or buffet set or they can be used as odd pieces.
BEFORE STARTING ARTICLE IT IS ADVISABLE TO MAKE A SAMPLE PIECE TO INSURE CORRECT GAUGE (THE NUMBER OF STITCHES AND ROWS TO THE INCH). UNLESS GAUGE IS PERFECT, THE ARTICLE WILL NOT BE THE SIZE GIVEN.
SCARFS - MADE OF DOUBLE COTTON MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS: Unbleached Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton in (700 yard) skeins and a No. 3 steel crochet hook.
The 16 x 32 inch scarf requires approximately 450 yards of cotton.
The 16 x 29 inch scarf requires approximately 410 yards of cotton.
CAUTION: In making these scarfs be sure to work with 2 strands of cotton taken together; this will make a heavy, soft thread.
GAUGE FOR CENTER MESH: 3 spaces = 2 inches; 3 rows = 2 inches.
