Materials: BEST Six CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, Size 20:

Big Ball: 70 balls for Single Size; 86 balls for Double Size; Steel Crochet Hook No. 8 or 9.

Motif measures 3 1/4 inches in diameter after blocking.

For a single size spread 72 x 105 inches, make 22 x 32 motifs.

For a double size spread about 88 x 105 inches, make 27 x 32 motifs.

MOTIF . . . Ch 10. Join with sl st.

1st rnd: Ch 1, 18 sc in ring. Sl st in 1st sc made.

2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * ch 5, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * 5 more times; ch 5, join with sl st in 1st sc.

3rd rnd: Ch 1, in each loop around make sc, half dc, 5 dc, half dc and sc (6 petals). Join.

4th rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * ch 7, insert hook in next loop from back to front of work, bring it out in next loop from front to back of work; thread over, draw loop through, thread over and draw through all loops on hook. Repeat from * around. Join (6 loops).

5th rnd: In each loop around make sc, half dc, dc, 7 tr, dc, half dc and sc (6 petals).

6th rnd: Repeat 4th rnd.

7th rnd: Sl st in 1st loop, ch 3, 7 dc in same loop, 8 dc in each loop around (48 dc on rnd). Join with sl st in 3rd st of ch-3.

8th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * ch 2, dc in next 3 dc, ch 4, sc in 4th ch from hook (p made), dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

9th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * ch 2, dc in next 3 dc, ch 1, p, ch 1, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

10th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * ch 2, dc in next 3 dc, ch 2, p, ch 2, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

11th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * ch 2, dc in next 3 dc, ch 11, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

12th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, * ch 2, dc in next 3 dc, 11 dc in next sp, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.

Make necessary number of motifs and sew corresponding (9 dc, ch 2 and 9 dc) sides of adjacent motifs together with neat over-and- over sts on wrong side. There will be one group of 8 dc, ch 2 and 8 dc free between joinings.

FILL-IN-MOTIF . . . Ch 7, join with sl st.

1st rnd: Ch 3, 15 dc in ring. Join with sl st to top st of ch-3.

2nd rnd: Ch 7, * skip 1 dc, dc in next dc, ch 4. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-4 with sl st in 3rd st of ch-7 (8 sps).

3rd rnd: Sl st in sp, ch 3, 7 dc in same sp, 8 dc in each following sp around. Join and break off.

Sew 8 dc of Fill-in-motif to center 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc of free group on large motif. Sew 3 adjacent groups in this manner, leaving 4 groups of 8 dc free on Fill-in-motif. Fill in all sps between motifs in same way.
