"Filet Scroll" Pillow No. 284

Approximate Size: 15 inches square

MATERIALS:

Lorraine Boilproof Crochet and Knitting Cotton,

Article 50,

1 skein Ivory or White,

or 1 skein Color.

1 Steel Crochet Hook, Standard Size 7. Gauge: 4 filet spaces = 1 inch 4 rows = 1 inch

Ch 183, for width at lower edge, work 1 d c in 4th st from hook (A on chart on page 20), 1 d c in each st to end of chain (181 d c in row, including the chain 3 at beginning of row, which always counts as the first d c).

2nd row (see chart): ch 3, turn, work 1 d c in 2nd st below, 1 d c in each of the next 2 sts (a block at beginning of row), * ch 3, skip 2 sts, 1 s c in next st, ch 3, skip the next 2 sts, 1 d c in next st  (V-stitch); repeat from * across to within 3 sts of end of row, work 1 d c in top of each of the remaining 2 d c below, 1 d c in top st of turning chain below (29 V-stitches and a block at each end of row).

3rd row (see chart): ch 3, turn, work a block over the block below, ch 5, skip the first V below, work 1 d c in top of next d c, * ch 5, skip the next V below, work 1 d c in top of next d c; repeat from * across, end with a block at end of row as before (29 V-spaces with a block at each end of row).

These last 2 rows complete the V-stitch pattern; repeat them once.

6th row (see chart): ch 3, turn, work a block over the block below, 2 V-stitches, 5 d c in next space, 1 d c in top of next d c (2 blocks over a V-stitch space); continue to follow chart across, thus working 2 blocks over each V-stitch space below, to within 2 spaces of end, 2 V-stitches, a block over the block at end of row.

7th row: ch 3, turn, work 1 block, 2 V-spaces, 1 d c in top of each of the 4 d c of block below (a block over a block), ch 2, skip 2 sts, 1 d c in next st (a filet space over a block or a V-space), continue to follow chart to end of row.

8th row (see chart): ch 3, turn, work 1 block, 2 V-stitches, 1 block, ch 2, skip 1 space, work 1 d c in top of next d c (a filet space over a filet space), 2 d c in space, 1 d c in top of next d c (a block over a filet space), 1 block over the next filet space, 1 filet space, 2 blocks; continue to follow chart to end of row. From now on follow chart to end, when there will be 60 rows completed from beginning; fasten off thread.

EDGING-Working from right side of pillow, make a loop on hook and work 1 d c in corner st at lower right hand corner of pillow, ch 3, slip st in 4th st from hook (picot), * ch 3, 1 s c around stem of end st of next row, ch 3, 1 d c around stem of end st of next row, ch 3, picot; repeat from * to corner, ch 3, 1 d c in corner st, ch 3, picot, * ch 3, skip 3 sts, 1 s c in next st, ch 3, skip 3 sts, 1 d c in next st, ch 3, picot; repeat from last * to next corner, work this corner same as last, then continue around working all corners alike, end with ch 3, join with a slip st in top of first d c of round and fasten off thread. Darn in all ends neatly.

Mount on a colored pillow form.

 "Filet Scroll" Scarf No. 281

Approximate Size: 15 inches by 45 inches

MATERIALS:

Lorraine Boilproof Crochet and Knitting Cotton,

Article 50,

3 skeins Ivory or White, or 4 skeins Color.

1 Steel Crochet Hook, Standard Size 7. Gauge: 4 filet spaces = 1 inch 4 rows = 1 inch

Following the directions for Pillow No. 284, but the chart for scarf, work to end of chart, when there will be 184 rows completed from beginning; fasten off thread and darn in ends neatly.

Finish with same edging as on Pillow.

2 skeins Ivory or White, or 2 skeins Color.

1 Steel Crochet Hook, Standard Size 7. Gauge: 4 filet spaces = 1 inch 4 rows = 1 inch

Ch 183, for width at lower edge, follow the general directions for Pillow No. 284, but the chart for chair-back  to end.

Finish with same edging as on Pillow.

Ch 93, for width at lower edge, follow the general directions for Pillow, but the chart for arm-rest, to end.

Finish with same edging as on Pillow.

This completes one arm-rest, make other arm-rest in same way.

Darn in all ends neatly.
