MATERIALS: CLARK'S O.N.T. "BRITA-SHEEN," 2 balls.

MILWARD'S steel crochet hook No. 9.

Each small doily measures about 6 inches in diameter; large doily measures about 18 1/2 inches in diameter.

SMALL DOILIES (Make 6)

MOTIF... 1st row: Ch 7, tr in 7th ch from hook; * ch 2, tr in same place. Repeat from * until 11 sps are made. Ch 2, sl st in 5th ch of ch-7.

2nd rnd: Ch 1, * in ch-2 sp make half d c, 3 d c, half d c; s c in tr. Repeat from * around.

3rd rnd: Sl st in each st to 2nd d c of next scallop, * ch 7, s c in center d c of next scallop. Repeat from * 10 more times; ch 3, d c in center d c of next scallop.

4th rnd: * Ch 13, s c in 3rd ch from hook, s c in next ch, half d c in next 2 ch, d c in next 3 ch, tr in next 3 ch, 4-tr cluster in last ch - to make cluster, make 4 tr, holding hack the last loop of each tr on hook; thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 tightly. Sl st in 4th ch of next ch-7 loop. Repeat from * around, ending with sl st at base of 1st cluster (12 points). Fasten off.

5th rnd: Attach thread to tip of 1st point, * ch 8, s c in 4th ch from hook (p), ch 5, s c in tip of next point. Repeat from * around. Join.

6th rnd: Ch 1, * roll the p of next loop over so that p points down toward center of motif; then, working over ch at right side of p, make 1 half d c, 3 d c, 2 tr; make 2 more tr, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook; 2 tr under ch at left of p, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook; thread over and draw through all loops, ch 4, sl st in tip of cluster; under same loop where last 2 tr of cluster were made make 2 tr, 3 d c and half d c; s c in next s c. Repeat from * around. Join to ch-1.

7th rnd: Ch 9, s c in 4th ch from hook (a ch-4 p), * ch 1, d tr in same place as sl st, p. Repeat from * 3 more times. Ch 1, d tr in same place as last d tr, ch 3, s c in next p, ch 3, d tr in s c between scallops, (p, ch 1, d tr in same place as last d tr) 5 times. Continue thus around. Join last ch-3 to 5th st of ch-9 first made (12 fans). Fasten off.

LARGE DOILY... Make 7 small doilies as before. Place 6 doilies to form a circle and sew together center p of 2 fans to center p of adjacent 2 fans with neat over-and-over stitches. Place remaining doily in center of circle and join center p of 2 fans to adjacent 2 p's of center doily, leaving 4 p's free between joinings.
