Lily Crochet Book 1300

MATERIALS-Lily Pearl Cotton, size 5: 22-balls White, 2-balls Lt. Green, and 1-ball each Beauty Rose, Blue and Yellow (or other colors).

Crochet hook size 5.

Size-36" square.

In White, make a 36" chain, sc in 2d st, (ch 6 sk next 5 sts, sc in next 2 sts) across for 34" stretched, ending with only 1 sc.

ROW 2-Ch 5, turn, sc in next 6-ch loop, (ch 2, dc in next 2 sc, ch 2, sc in next loop) across, ending with only 1 dc.

ROW 3-Ch 6, turn, insert hook under 6-ch loop in Row 1 and make sc over sc in last row, (ch 3 dc in next 2 dc, ch 3, sc over next sc) across, ending with only 1 dc.

ROW 4-Ch 1, turn, sc in dc, (ch 5, sc in next 2 dc) across, ending with only 1 sc.

ROW 5-Ch 1, turn, sc in sc, (ch 6, sc in next 2 sc) across, ending with only 1 sc.

Repeat Rows 2, 3 4 and 5 until work is square, ending with Row 4. Fasten off. Stretch until pattern is opened out and pin down. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.

BRAID-In Lt. Green, make a ch 6" longer than around cloth, sc in 2d sc, a loop st (see instructions) in each st. Fasten off.

ROW 2-Turn, join Beauty Rose, (ch 1, hdc in next 2d st) to end. Fasten off.

ROW 3-Join Blue to last hdc, turn, (ch 1, hdc in next sp) to end. Fasten off.

Repeat in Yellow. Sew on edge of cloth and press on back.

Make a napkin in each color in braid.

Loop Stitch (lp st)-How To Make

Hold work between thumb and first finger, with thread passing over 1st and 2d fingers, lift 1st finger under thread, bend and bring finger forward and down under thread again, making a complete turn of thread around finger. Insert hook in next st, catch left-hand strand of thread above finger and pull thru, tightening thread loop around finger, thread over and pull thru 2 loops on hook for 1 sc to fasten loop st. Work tightly.
