Insertion measures 7 inches deep. Each pattern measures about 10 1/2 inches wide and requires 300 yds. of thread.

Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet

J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet

Milward's steel crochet hook No. 14

Gauge: 9 sps make 1 inch; 9 rows make 1 inch.

Starting at lower edge, make a chain (27 chain sts to 1 inch) to measure 1/3 longer than desired length.

1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each ch across for desired length (the number of d c shoul be divisible by 282, plus 1). Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn.

2nd row: D c in each d c across. Ch 5, turn.

3rd row: * Skip 2 d c, d c in next d c, ch 2. Repeat from * across (number of spaces should be divisible by 94). Ch 3, turn.

4th row: * D c in each of next 2 ch, d c in d c. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn.

5th row: Same as 3rd row.

6th row: D c in each of next 2 ch, d c in next d c, (1 bl); ch 2, d c in next d c (sp over sp); make 3 more sps, 7 bls, 12 sps, 3 bls, 9 sps, 7 bls, 4 sps, 1 bl, 4 sps, 7 bls, 9 sps, 3 bls, 12 sps, 7 bls, 4 sps (this completes one pattern). Now repeat pattern the necessary number of times. Ch 3, turn.

Hereafter, starting with 7th row, follow chart to top, always repeating pattern the necessary number of times.
