by Angela Sadio Watson Hand Crafted and Personalized Fans of Oshun.Oshun is the Goddess of love, beauty, and sensuality. Oshun represents receptivity, fertility and the feminine spirit. As she is reflected in brass, gold, and shining gems, I incorporate mirrors along with shimmering glitter, brilliant feathers of nature, gold dust and sometimes cowries are added to bring out the fan’s natural beauty.
It is said that Oshun carries a fan in one hand and a mirror in the other because of how well she admires her own beauty. How did I create my first fan, well I was charged with obtaining a fan to participate in a group dance presentation and the idea came to me to create my own. And so a beautiful fan was born much like many of ancient times, for the purpose of honoring Oshun.
