A Family Tree

      Written by Bill Cargile

A few years ago, a girl that I loved promised me,
That we would be as one and be a family tree.
And in the year of 39 this knot, it was tied,
So until this day, neither one of us has died.

It was in the year of 41, this tree began to bare,
It was just a girl I loved so well, a girl with golden hair.
And in the year of 44, Uncle Sam began to call,
He picked me up and carried me in, and put me on the ball.

I did not like this army life, but I will carry on,
And I will do the best I can, until the war is won.
It was in my basic training, a telegram brings joy,
It says your wife is doing well, and your baby boy.

Yes now the four of us, is still a family tree,
Even tho a branch of it, is drifting toward the sea.
Yes I know I am away, I still think of you each day,
And some day I am coming back, forever with you to stay.
