Can I Keep You?

Waves crashed against the beach in endless secession, each peaking in a white flurry of foam. The sounds of the ocean raging barely audible in the ears of the two walking along the white sands. So into each other that all else faded away. Whispering in the wind, her long white dress enveloped his body as the two met. Kissing her softly, he crept to one knee.

"Can I keep you?" The words mirroring the intense fire that flickered in his eyes. He held her hand before him, holding the world. In the other, a diamond sparkled fiercely in the moonlight. A tear trickled slowly down her beautiful face and she tried to mouth the word 'yes'.

She found that she couldn't speak, emotion catching her words. Time seemed to stand still, a moment frozen perfectly in time. The waters no longer rushed upon the shoreline. The winds ceased to blow and the only sound was the beating of two hearts. He could feel her's beating through her fingertips, each beat in sync with his own. Looking into her shimmering blue eyes, he saw his past, his present and his future. She was every woman he had ever come across. He heard her when she wasn't there. Her smell lingered in the air, following him down every path. His thoughts drifted back to all the times they had together.

Eight years ago in this very spot, he had declared his love for her. That night he had spoken the three words that would be his life. "I love you." All these years later, he could still see the euphoric expression that had flashed across her delicate face. Memories surged through him. Senior prom. Their trip to the mountains. The hearts broken. The good times. The bad times. Times together and the times apart. Yet, through it all, he loved her completely. She had been the first thought upon waking and the last before slumber. Now he knelt before her, asking her to be there in he morning.

"Yes!" She said, tears flowing freely.

Standing, he wiped the tears from her eyes and kissed her passionately. "I am for you."
