Whenever
possible, we try to help in the community. Our most
recent project is turning about 100 belaying pins to be used
on the HMS Bounty, a tall sailing ship that was used in the
filming of the movie Mutiny on the Bounty. A bole
of purpleheart was donated to us for use in turning the pins.
Through the efforts of club members the bole was transported
to Jimmy's Sawmill and sliced into 3" x 3" pieces for turning
blanks.
Blanks may be picked up at the Woodcraft store on US19 in
Countryside. Please bring the completed pins to the
monthly meeting. Instructions for completing the pins
are available at the Woodcraft store, from Walt.
The leadership
of the club delivered the pins to the Captain of the Bounty
along with a capstan Walt and Art turned for them as well.
Thanks to all the members who participated by turning pins!
