How's this for a
beautiful bring back? This segmented bowl generated a lot of
comment and a request for next month's demo. |

Thank
you for letting us share our passion for woodturning!
The Suncoast Woodturners Association is
a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching, promoting, and
appreciating the art of woodturning. Our passion brings us together.
Whether you are a beginner, an intermediate turner, or have the skills of
a craftsman who has turned for decades, there is a place for you here.

The
belaying pins we turned for the Bounty were delivered by club
member leadership. Here are a few already at work.

Our members are willing to share there
successes, and yes, even there failures. Learning from one another
is the strongest plank in the foundation of the Suncoast Woodturners
Association. Our meetings are filled with
fellowship, fun, and demonstrations of the craft. We invite you to
join us the first Tuesday of each month and let us share the passion of
woodturning. |
Whenever
possible, we try to help in the community. Our most
recent project is turning about 150 belaying pins to be used
on the HMS Bounty, a tall sailing ship that was used in the
filming of the movie Mutiny on the Bounty. A bole
of purpleheart was donated to us for use in turning the pins.
Through the efforts of club members the bole was transported
to Jimmy's Sawmill and sliced into 3" x 3" pieces for turning
blanks.
Blanks may be picked up at the Woodcraft store on US19 in
Countryside. Please bring the completed pins to the
monthly meeting. Instructions for completing the pins
are available at the Woodcraft store, from Walt. |

Captain Robin
Walbridge and Walter Jones aboard the tall ship Bounty.
Captain Walbridge expressed his appreciation for the club's
efforts in turning the belaying pins for the Bounty.

Demonstrations
and hands-on instruction are an important part of our
monthly meetings. At left, Art Worth, our
newsletter editor, demonstrates the proper technique to
use a hollowing tool he acquired at the Florida
Woodturners meeting. Come join us and learn.
For more
information, contact Walter Jones, Membership Director
at the Clearwater Woodcraft Store or e-mail

The Freedom
Pens Project is an all volunteer effort spearheaded by the
members of SawMill Creek Woodworkers Forums to provide
custom handcrafted pens to American servicemen and
women overseas. Woodcraft will donate some pen sets for
our members to make into pens for
the project. You can also buy pen sets at a discount at
the store and use the store equipment
to make pens for the project. More details at the meeting. |
