Pier Park celebrates Mardi Gras this weekend. Panama City Beach’s Pier Park open-air lifestyle has two days of fun, food and entertainment. Friday, March 4- (5pm): The streets of Pier Park are closed to vehicular traffic and the second line parade begins as spectators form behind the brass band waving handkerchiefs, parasols or their arms in the air. Saturday, March 5- (10am): Festivities kick-off with a kid’s parade winding through the colorful mix of stores and restaurants in Pier Park (11am-2pm): Kids can participate in a fun-filled activity center as well as participate in a pirate costume contest, treasure hunt, face painting and mask painting. (2pm): The Mardi Gras parade with King, Queen and Court begins, as floats make their way along Front Beach Road and march through Pier Park. The fun continues after the parade with live entertainment, regal costumes, masks, beads, trinkets, Cajun fare including gumbo and low-country boils, and much more. (9pm): The evening ends with a fireworks display over the Gulf. Both days are open to the public with free admission.

Vision Airlines to Start Non Stops to PCB

The latest charter company to attempt to make the switch to scheduled air service as a low-cost airline reports that it sold 12,000 tickets in about 120 hours for flights which are planned to begin on March 25th. The traffic to their website reportedly crashed their servers due to potential passengers trying to get an introductory $49 fare to Florida. Vision Airlines is in the process of becoming a scheduled air carrier with service to 23 cities mostly in Florida and the south. The airline will have the new Northwest Florida Regional Airport near Destin/Fort Walton Beach as its hub for destinations in Florida. The airline, which has been in the charter business for 16 years, put together a business plan focused on offering flights departing from southern U.S. cities that it says lack low-cost, direct jet service to destinations in Florida. They say that people in these cities mostly fly in regional jets, endure long layovers while connecting through other cities, and pay high airfares. Vision Airlines now offers Boeing 737 jet flights on direct routes that other airlines do not fly. Beach Service

I am thinking about increasing my rate $5/nightly to be able to provide beach service with the condo rental. I would not increase the weekly rate. The increase would be March 1st through October 31st. As of now it is just an idea and would appreciate your comments on the increase. Is the i ncrease justified if it means you don't have to pay for the beach service once you arrive? Let me hear from you. Yes or No. This photo is from the beach service in 2007.

New Year's Eve

I haven't blogged in a while as I've not been back to PCB in a while. I did want to share a website that has photos from New Year's Eve at Pier Park. Looks like they had a great crowd and it appears they all had a great time. This link is from pcbdaily.com which has great information. http://pcbdaily.com/pier-park-nye-2010 We were there during Thanksgiving and the weather was nice for the most part. Out toaster stopped working so we bought a toaster oven as I've had requests for that. They are still working on Thomas Drive. Supposedly the utilities are suppose to go underground soon. I need to check on this though as I've not had a report lately about the construction. It is suppose to be done sometime this year and the drawing of what it is to look like is very nice.

A wonderful week in Paradise
Mood:

We had a wonderful 8 nights in PCB. We had 80s all week long with no rain. Green flags the first half of the week. I think it was on Wednesday when it was cloudier and windy causing yellow flags the remainder of our stay. I understood the yellow on Wednesday, but the rest of the week seemed more calm. Maybe they need a greenish yellow flag. lol Went to the beach most afternoons. Played Gold on 2 occassions at the par 3 Holiday Park course. Love it there as you have the place to yourself, so if you are self consious on your play, I recommend this place. We also try and do some things while we are down there, so we had our blinds repaired, The sofabed sleeper mechanism replaced along with the mattress. Also notice the disposal and one of the kitchen lights out, so had maintenance repair the disposal and had the ballists replaced on the one light fixture. The new airport is nice, BUT if you fly Delta, be prepared to use the stairs when boarding and departing the plane as their gates are on ground level. Looked to me that Southwest had all the gates with ramps. Another bad thing with Delta gates is that there were hardly any chairs at all. We had to sit at the next gate behind a wall and there was no announcement that they were boarding. Luckily some other people looked and saw that they had started boarding, so we went over there. Another thing is it is more like a 25-30 minute drive while the older airport was only 15. We may go back at Thanksgiving if we are not booked, we so enjoyed ourselves. There are still some dates available before the snowbirds arrive, so get your last fix of PCB in before it is too late for the year. Take Care, Linda
