The
Green Sandals
Although it has been several months since the Tsunami destroyed many countries
in Southeast Asia, stories are still being told about that day of horror.
This is one about a little girl (about 8 yrs. old) who lived with her family
on an island near the Indian Ocean. When the Tsunami suddenly lashed
at her home and surrounding areas – many people were swept into the raging
sea. Homes and buildings were shattered and many people suffered.
It was a day of devastation! When the Tsunami was over families searched
for their loved ones among the scattered debris. Fortunately the
child’s family survived, but the child could not be found! Everyone
tried to help and when the rescue team arrived they gave a description
of the child. They added that she was wearing green sandals!
Soon the father was called to the rescue camp. He borrowed a bicycle
and sped to the camp. A clerk was waiting for him and took the anxious
father into a crowded tent. He was led to the back of the room where
he saw his child! She was a bit dazed and tattered and still wearing
the green sandals. He picked her up and she reached out to her father.
They were both weeping the thanked the rescue worker! As he was leaving
with his “lost” child – the rescue worker said, “With so many lost children
it was easy to look for green sandals”. Her father agreed!
Then they raced home to a happy family her mother embraced her amid many
tears! This was indeed a miracle! But it was the “green sandals”
they would most treasure!
