next year's team

         For next year’s team, there will be a great deal of knowledge on which to base their work.  The older members of the club, coming back next year to be on or help the team, can obviously provide many ideas from the experiences we have had while working on Botball this year.  This includes the very necessary information and understanding of the structure, design, and function of the various Lego pieces that this year’s team spent a good deal of time learning about.  Next year’s team will not have to do as much of that as we did this year, since they will have our knowledge to work from.  This means that next year they can immediately start working directly towards the solutions of the problems.  We think that next year we will start earlier by building generic models of robots that can lift or push or grab, etc., so that when the time comes it will be a simple matter of taking the best model for the job and putting all the pieces together.  We are also thinking about starting the programming earlier as well, with pre-prepared universal programs that can do things like follow a line or operate different types of sensors.
