JUST A LITTLE TRIVIA FOR YOU

As you can see, this page has absolutely nothing at all to do with airplanes or flying. I just thought it would be a good place to share my "Other Hobby" with you....trivia, and in particular, Idioms, since they are not only a rewarding aspect of language study, but just plain cool to know.

I'll publish two or three each week, in the hope that you will enjoy them.

"THEY SOLD THE RANCH OUT, LOCK,STOCK, AN' BARREL".

The origin of this expression had to do with the sale of a farm in which the buyer would usually purchase everything, including the "stock" In the field, "lock" to the building, and "rainbarrel" 'round the side.
The term also applied to the sale of a business, wherein the "stock" referred to the inventory.

"ALRIGHT BUDDY, I'M HERE FOR THE MONEY, SO COUGH IT UP"

This idiom had it's origin in Medievil times when the Tax Collectors came to collect the King's Taxes. Since they usually took everything in sight, the people would swallow what little money they had. The Tax man, however, soon became wise to this trick, and ordered them to "cough it up"!

HOPE YOU ENJOYED THEM, SEE YOU NEXT WEEK....SONNY
