Pvt. John Wilburn Braxton

Who is buried in grave 1493 at Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio? Was it an anonymous J.W. Barton, assigned to the same unit, or is it conscripted John Braxton who died of pneumonia at Camp Chase prison, March 1st, 1865?

 

 

 

According to Official Confederate Service Records, John Wilburn Braxton died of pneumonia, 3 day before a scheduled prisoner exchange, on March 1st, 1865. As indicated above, he was buried at the Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery. Barton's name was evidently penciled in for reasons unknown to me. To view the tombstone, visit Leona Gustafson's site at
