JASON'S MOTHER'S JOURNAL
Charlotte CI

Sometimes I wish my "mother's intuition" wasn't so strong but it usually is. Mike is supporting me in this - he's seen all the letters & heard the calls from the Warden & Investigator & he's right - Canned Statements. It's just scary even getting started getting the word out, but I know it has to be done.  All we need for the moment is an angel in the mailroom - he's short 3 weeks worth of daily letters from me - there's no mail in the p.o. box from him today or yesterday. I'm just gonna keep praying, writing & talk with the attorney when he calls.

Update - just got off the phone with Cullin Obrien, who is with Randy Berg's office.  I sent him a link to the site Kay Lee put up. I am sending him the rest of Jason's letter - as soon as Mike helps me to scan them.  He said he'll can back after he reviews the letter. Sounds like I've got my day cut out for me. Thanks so much to all of you - I owe you -

I have scheduled a call with a reporter at the sptimes for Tuesday morning, Sydney P. Freedberg is the reporters name.  Any advice is appreciated, do you have a list of others you have worked with?

Can you tell us more about the Justice Institute in Miami, are they personally interested in working on inmate abuse cases or are they a law firm taking cases.

I got a call back from the new Classification Officer Bocknor, she was very nice but “can’t tell me more than here & okay” – She hasn’t seen him yet either.

She did suggest that I get a letter to Dr. Highsmith requesting the form for Jason to sign to get info.

She tells me they only change the inmate photos every five years or so **.  She also said that her file shows that Jason shoved an officer & that is under investigation.  Which was probably when they moved him to the med unit the other night. Hmmmm

I sent the letter via fax & she confirmed receipt – at least she’s polite & seems concerned – that’s a nice twist.

She assures me he will get his mail there.

** That's not true!  I have followed inmates for years and their pictures nearly always changed every time they are moved.  I'll show you a good example.  Go to https://www.angelfire.com/fl4/fci/kevinsmith.html and look at the collage I made of this young man's yearly changes.  Kay Lee

Jason’s supposed to get out in December – I wonder what they will send out.  So far it looks like an angry, whacked young man – so much for prevention – this system sucks.  We don’t prevent anything – reactive is what we’ve got.  Our drug programs are practically nonexistent, but we have a new walkover for the speedway and all of the beachside is getting a fresh face – I assume to accommodate gambling (it is coming) –  So – getting away is not an option – all the issues remain.  Guess we have to keep on fighting – I’ll do that & I know you will too.

Jason is supposed to come home 12/18. I can only hope.

New # to Charlotte CI– 941 833 2300 – Busy so far.

I just called & spoke with "Sergeant" (he said that's [Sergeant] his 1st name when I asked) Myer. He said Jason just arrived - & "looks like a healthy young man". He said I can call classification tomorrow but it may take a week or more for authorized phone numbers to filter from Apalachee - so much for technology. He sounds like a real charmer - Gave me this mailing address:

Charlotte Correctional
33123 Oil Well Road
Punta Gorda, FL 33955
Jason Buchanan V16601

This really sucks - I think it's gone from bad to worse & can only pray that there is someone there with a heart.  If thoughts & will could make a wall transparent - I would already see him.  If I could just get him some mail. I don't think Jason has gotten one of my letters since the 26th of May - I wrote every day trying to calm him & let him know there is help I know what happens when they "move" they just seem to love cutting off contact.  If it's okay to have addresses to write to then why isn't it okay to take your measly possessions with you - the things that give you hope - I am so angry.  Who the hell said anyone could play God? Do these people have family?

Convenient time to move him? Actually - It scares the daylight out of me. I guess the good news is that Apalachee feels he is no longer there - so move on lady - this is going to become a full time job - I'm getting beyond hurt - ya know?

Re Prison Worker Myers, first name "Sergeant" at the new place where Jason was moved [Charlotte CI] - I asked for Sergeant Myer's first name and he said "it's Sergeant!" Okay - I am required by law to disclose myself & who I work for when I talk with people - it's an ethics issue. So.. when I ask a prison worker for their name - are they required to tell me?  Cause I think I am helping to pay for their position. Yes? So - Myer is gonna hear from me again.

How convenient for Apalachee to have moved him (just like that). I checked the DoC site & I think that’s why the Apalachee Classification guy gave me that info – I complained that the site wasn’t up to date & had a 4-6 day lag here & there – we talked for a long time & he was tired of telling me no. This is just unbelievable – that you can lose touch with the people you love & are trying to help & these people answer the phone like you are the enemy – I am really getting pissed.

I bet they don’t change the photo – any betting women out there?  Never mind – I know the answer.  He was pretty healthy.  If I lose my son – I won’t lose my fight – I’ll carry his too.  I heard the attitude when I got Myer – He hasn’t heard mine yet.

RE: Jason Buchanan V16601 - Charlotte CI - Mary's son

Hi Kay Lee,

The response to Jason's situation has been incredible, I am getting emails from all over the country. I really appreciate all the prayers & the supportive thoughts & suggestions.  It's wonderful to be reminded that there are good people out there! I feel compelled to answer everyone & there aren't enough hours to do that. I would like to replace the email link on the site with the statement below:
-----------------------
Thanks to everyone for all the supportive prayers, thoughts & suggestions.  Jason has been moved to a medical facility at Charlotte CI and I have spoken with him by phone, he is in good spirits, and I continue to write to him daily.  I will be posting updates on this site as I get more information.

If you know of other instances of inmate abuse please get the word out, this will not stop until the voices become so loud that they can no longer be ignored.  There are many support groups that know the prison system inside and out, and I encourage you to contact them at the first sign of trouble, and get the details out there for all to see.

Thanks for your support.
