WELCOME TO LANARK VILLAGE


Lanark Village has many amenities available for your convenience and pleasure. Whether you are a year round resident or a part time resident, we need you to join us in keeping our neighborhood a pleasant place to live. Homes are for sale or rent by local realtors or owners. There are sudios and 1-2-3 bedroom units located within the Lanark Village Subdivision. Lanark Village (apartments/units) is bordered on the north by Oak Street, on the east by Debra Lane, on the west by Collins Avenue and on the south by Hwy 98.

We hope you will take an active part in making our community an attractive place to live. Flowers, well kept bushes and cut grass add to the value of your property as well as the beauty of our neighborhood. Garbage/Trash pick-up twice a week is available at a reasonable cost. Yard debris is picked up during the second week of every month. All large items should be taken to the landfill area on Hwy 65 in Eastpoint. There is an Amnesty (no charge) day once a month at this area. If you are unable to take your item to the landfill area, call 670-8167 for assistance. A Recyce center is located at the corner of Oak Street and Heffernan Avenue.

AMNESTY DAYS - Franklin County Solid Waste Department

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners has approved the 2005 schedule for Amnesty Days program sponsored by Keeep Franklin County Beautiful. Citizens of Franklin County may dispose of solid waste materials at the Franklin County Landfill located at 210 Hwy 65 in Eastpoint free of charge on the days listed below:



LAND FILL HOURS: Summer (Apr. 1st thru Sept. 30th) Monday 0 Friday 7am - 4:30pm and Saturday 9:00am to 12:30pm

Winter (Oct. 1 thru Mar 31) Monday - Friday 9am - 4:30pm and Saturday 9 am - 12:30pm

ACCEPTED WASTE ITEMS ARE: 1) Yard Trash - limbs up to 18" in diameter, pine straw & cones, leaves and grass clippings. No mixed trash such as bottles, cans, paper etc. Yard trash will be accepted every Monday of the month as well as the Amnesty Days listed.

2) White Goods - Stoves, ranges, refrigerators, tin, iron and any household or commercial item made of metal NO Automobiles or other vehicles

3) Tires - up to TWO car or small truck tires, with or without rims, per resident. Tires from wholesale or retail tire businesses will not be accepted free of charge.

4) Construction & Demolition Debris - wood, brick, sheet rock, windows, carpet and any other debris which is brought in by the homeowner. Debris which is brought in by commercial contractos or builders will not be accepted.

Excluded items during Amnesty Days are household garbage, televisions, clothing and restricted items already listed. These items are handled by the county's waste hauler and are subject to a fee. State regulations require that different types of waste be disposed of in separate areas of the landfill, so load your waste accordingly.

ALL THE ITEMS LISTED ABOVE ARE ALSO THE ITEMS WHICH MAY NOT BE PLACED AT THE RECYCLING AREA!!!

PLEASE KEEP YOUR PETS ON A LEASH (THE COUNTY HAS A LEASH LAW) AND CLEAN UP AFTER THEM.




THE LANARK VILLAGE ASSOCIATION, INC.


We urge all residents to join our association. (This is not a home owners Association) Our monthly meetings are on the first Monday of the month starting in October and ending in April. They are held at Chillas Hall on Heffernan drive, next to the post office. Meetings start at 7pm sharp and usually last about an hour. Residents who live in Lanark Village, Lanark Beach, Gulf Terrace, and other areas within the Lanark Water & Sewer District 90 days or more a year or all property owners in the same area, are eligible to become full members by submitting an application for membership and dues of $10 per person per year. Non residents are welcome to join as Associate Members for $10 annually by completing the membership application. We have many friends and relatives who support our association by becoming associate members. Each member will be issued a membership card which entitles them to many benefits including attending member free events, a copy of "The Tattler" our quarterly newsletter to name a few.

The Association, through its Constitution and By-Laws, functions as a constituted organization representing the residents in the district. Through its concerted action, it obtains local, county, and state support in furthering ends conceived to be best for its protection and advancement. A copy of the Constitution and By-Laws is available to all members and will in the future be available on this web site.

The street lights within the village are paid for by the Association, in large part by money obtained from Franklin County. The Association makes up any shortfall with special donations from members or from general funds. It owns Chillas Hall, operates the boat/vehicle storage yard behind the fire house on Oak Street, and rents the Post Office to the U. S. Government.



EMERGENCY SERVICES

For all Emergency Services: Fire - Police - Ambulance CALL 911. Give your name; full address and building number. AN AMBULANCE, WHICH HAS ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT, IS STATIONED IN THE VILLAGE. Life Flight Services are also available. The Life Flight uses the Lanark Village Golf Course for landing.

ST. JAMES - LANARK VOL. FIRE DEPT.

The St. James-Lanark Vol. Fire Dept is located on Oak Street at Collins Avenue. Meetings are held the first Thursday of the month at 7pm. Bingo is held on Tuesday evenings starting at 6pm. The fire department needs and welcomes volunteers. This department is a vital part of our community and your support is very important.

LANARK SURVEILLANCE PATROL


Both men and women of the community maintain a volunteer neighborhood surveilance patrol on a 24-hour tour, 7 days a week. Patrols are carried out in a specially marked car supplied by the Franklin County Sheriff's Department. The car has radio contact with the Franklin County Sheriff's dispatcher. Volunteers are alwayas needed. If you would like to participate in this program please contact John Chandler at 697-8544 for information.



HEALTH CARE

Blood pressures are taken the first Wednesday of each month during coffee hour at Chillas Hall. In surrounding towns such as Carrabelle, 4 miles to the west, and Eastpoint, 14 miles to the west, there are doctors who have scheduled office hours. Carrabelle has a drug store with a registered pharmacist on duty. The Franklin County Health Department is also located in Carrabelle.



TRANSPORTATION

Lanark Village has a bus (Lanark Village Travellers, Inc.) which transports villagers (for a small fee) to Carrabelle, Apalachicola, and Crawfordville, alternating each Tuesday, leaving Chillas Hall at 9am, for shopping and doctor visits. Trips to Tallahassee are scheduled once a month for shopping. Travellers plans trips to other areas and the itinerary is posted on the bulletin board at Chillas Hall.
Travellers raises money to maintain the bus with a Bingo night each Wednesday evening starting at 6:30 Sharp. Come and Support our Bus Company!!!

There is a local Cab Company located in Carrabelle, 4 miles west. You can reach them at 850-697-8135



THE LANARK VILLAGE WATER & SEWER DISTRICT


The Water & Sewer Department is located on Warren Street and is open from 9am to 1pm weekdays. We have the best water and sewer at a reasonable cost. Monthly meetings are held at Chillas Hall the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 2pm.



POSTAL SERVICES


The Lanark Village Post Office, zip code 32323 is located in the same building as Chillas Hall on Heffernan Drive. The post office is open 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. No window service is available. The postal worker is available Monday - Saturday 8am - 10:30am to pick up packages too large to fit in your box. There is a mail box outside of the post office and mail is picked up every day except Sunday & Holidays, at 5pm. To rent a box at the Lanark location, or for other postal services, you will need to visit the Carrabelle Post Office located on Hwy 67 in Carrabelle, 4 miles west of Lanark. They are open from 8am - 4pm and go to lunch 12:30pm - 1:30pm



LANARK VILLAGE PLAZA


THE THRIFT SHOP
The Thrift Shop is located in the plaza on Oak Street ans is open Monday thru Friday from 9am - 12 noon. It is serviced by volunteers and all monies earned are donated locally. The Thrift Shop always needs items to sell and your donations are welcome. Your discarded items might be some one else's treasure. So before you throw that toaster away, if it works, take it by the thrift shop.

COASTAL WAVE LENGTHS -Beauty Shop is owned and operated by Barb Rohrs, one of your year around residents. She is closed on Mondays. You can get a manicure, and men, women and children are welcome. So stop in and see Barb.

CUTTERS CAFE & PUB - Also located in the Plaza, right next to the beauty shop. They are open for breakfast and lunch Wednesday - Sunday. So stop in and have a bite of some delicious food.

LAUNDROMAT - Next to Cutters Cafe is a laundromat with washers & dryes for your convenience.



BOAT & TRAILER / VECHICLE STORAGE YARD

The Lanark Village Association has a large fenced parking area behind the Fire Department on Collins Avenue. This has been divided into spaces available to all unit/apartment owners for their registered vehicles, such as campers, RV's, boats, motor homes and trailers for $135 + tax annually and be a member of the Association. There is a special county ordinance that applies to the Lanark apartment area that does not allow these type vehicles to be parked on the street. Other residents of the area may rent spaces if they are available. The lot is locked and each renter is issued a key after a $25 deposit is paid. There are 6 lights around the area and the Sheriffs department as well as the Lanark Surveillance Patrol check the lot regularly.



CHILLAS HALL/SOCIAL ACTIVITIES


Chillas Hall, our social meeting hall, is located on Heffernan Drive. Volunteers serve coffee each morning from 8:30am - 10:30/11:00am except Sundays.


Bring a covered dish and join us on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 1:00pm for dinner. Tuesday & Fridays night from 7pm - 10pm are card and game nights for those who wish to come to the hall and play. Please check our Calendar Of Events Page for upcoming events. Renting Chillas Hall for meetings, parties is also available.

The Village has a park located directly across the street from Chillas Hall available for picnics with your family and friends. Enjoy yourselves, and please pick up your garbage and help keep our park clean.



OTHER CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS


LANARK VILLAGE BOAT CLUB
On the south side of Hwy 98 on St. George Sound is our Boat Club and Marina. Membership is $10 per person per year. (You don't have to own a boat to belone!!!) Meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of each month. Refreshments are served at each meeting. On the 3rd Saturday of the month from Oct. thru May, the Boat Club serves pancakes and/or French Toast, sausage, orange juice, and coffee (and an egg or two if you want them)from 8:30 am - 12:00pm. You will be asked to donate the sum set for the day to support this activity

There are many activities during the year including luncheons, ice cream socials, a fish fry, and two bazaars. The Boat Club also has a Marina with a double boat ramp (behind the Village Mart Pure Station). Boats can be launched for a reasonable fee. There are some Boat Slips, which are rented out each year, and they are available from time to time, so get your name on the list if you think you would like to keep your boat at a slip.



HOBBY CLUB:
The Hobby Club consists of people who gather together and work on their most favorite project while socializing with friends and discussing projects. Hobby meets at Chillas Hall every Monday from 1pm - 3:30pm. Refreshments are served and everyone is welcome.



QUILTING CLUB:
Wandering Star Quilters meet every Thursday at Chillas Hall from 1pm - 4pm. Quilters work on community projects and often have guest speakers who demonstrate their talents. A Quilt Show is held every other year on the last Saturday in March at Chillas Hall. Visitors are sometimes asked to participate in the judging of quilt entries.



LANARK VILLAGE GOLF CLUB:
We have a Golf Club - you certainly noticed the golf course when you first thought of living here. Dues are reasonable: Membership is $50 annually and for each game played $2 for members and $5 for non members. Since no one attends the Starting Tee, donations for playing the course are on a honor system. A slotted box is supported there for receiving monies for play. And score cards are also available. Meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7pm at Chillas Hall.



THE GARDEN CLUB:
The Yaupon Garden Club is located in Carrabelle on Avenue F and meets the first Wednesday of each month at 1pm. Most of the members and officers are residents of Lanark Village. The programs cover a wide range of interest as well as Florida gardening. Refreshments are served after each meeting. New members (both men & women) are welcome. Dues are $10 a year.



AMERICAN LEGION POST 82:
The American Legion Post #82 is located west of the Village on Louisiana Street. The Legionares meet at 7:30pm the first Tuesday of each month. The Sons of Legionares meet at 7pm on the first Wednesday of each month. The Ladies Auxiliary meets at 3pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month,. Post 82 is very active and community oriented. During emergencies, it is available as a shelter and at all other times it is a place to hold dances, meetings, fish fries and bingo. Bingo is helf every Friday at 6pm and every Sunday at 2pm.



CHURCHES


SACRED HEART ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH:
The Catholic Church is located east of the Village on Hwy 98. Sunday Mass is held at 10:00am with refreshments following in the Church Hall. Daily Masses are held Mon, Tue, Fri and Sat at 9:30am in the Chapel at the Priest's house on Spring Street and Newman Drive. The Ladies Guild of the Catholic church meets in the Church Hall the last Wednesday of each month at 1pm except during summer months.

THE COMMUNITY CHURCH:
The Community Church is located on Spring and Oak Streets. The service on Sunday is at 10:30am. Choir practice is at 9:30am Saturdays. Women's Christian Fellowship Circle meets at 1pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Bible Study is at 10am each Friday.



FRANKLIN COUNTY SENIOR CENTER:
Carrabelle has an active Senior Citizens Center located 4 miles west of Lanark Village on Avenue F. The Center serves meals and has MEALS ON WHEELS available to residents of Lanark Village. There are many other services available through the Center. The Bridge Club meets here every Monday and Tuesday 12pm



SPECIAL ZONING DISTRICT


LANARK VILLAGE FALLS UNDER A SPECIAL ZONING DISTRICT IN FRANKLIN COUNTY AND APPLIES TO THOSE BUILDINGS FALLING WITHIN THE PERIMETER DECRIBED ON THE COUNTY PLAT. THE FOLLOWIN, IN ADDTION TO ALL OTHER FRANKLIN COUNTY ZONING CODES ARE THE SPECIAL ZONING REGULATIONS THAT WERE ADOPTED BY THE COUNTY TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THIS COMMUNITY AND IDENTIFY IT AS UNIQUE:


1. No structure shall be erected or placed at any site or postition so as to cover, block or obstruct buried pipes of water, sewer, or utilities. Bathroom windows may not be blocked, enclosed or obstructed by any structure.

2. Carports shall not be erected closer than 3 FEET TO ANY PROPERTY LINE, and may be erected only on the rear or sides of dwelling units. All carports shall be of permanent type construction.

3. Public pedestrian sidewalks shall not be blocked or obstructed by any structure, nor used as parking areas for vehicle trailers or portable structures.

4. The maximum number of stories permitted shall be one (1) story only, which may not be enlarged vertically above the roof line of 16 FEET above the ground floor or slab.

5. No structure facing a court shall be extended BEYOND 11 FEET from the original walls nor closer than ten feet to the property line.

6. No extention of rear walls, nor closer than five feet to the property line.

7. No extention from side walls of any structure shall be permitted greater than ELEVEN FEET from original walls, nor nearer than FOUR FEET from the propery line.

8. No extension shall be permitted from walls facing streets greater than ELEVEN FEET from the original structure, nor four feet frmo the property line.

9. Fences shall be subject to the same limitations as provided herin for buliding estensions, and shall BE NO HIGHER THAN FIVE FEET, AND MUST BE NOT LESS THAN 50% PERMEABLE TO LIGHT AND AIR. No advertising signs or displays shall be permitted except that one sign, not to exceed SIX SQUARE FEET in area, may be displayed for the sale of the real property upon which it is displayed. No illuminating signs shall be permitted.



THE FRANKLIN COUNTY COMMISSIONERS (our commissioner is Cheryl Sanders)strenghened existing Ordinances for the protection of Lanark Village residents due to their special needs and recognizes that the Village is a unique retirement community wanting to preserve the desirable characteristics and prohibit nuisance activities. The following was adopted:


ORDINANCE #97-17:
1. No noxious or offensive trade or activity shall be carried on upon any lot or in any structure, nor anything be done theron which may be or become an annoyance, nusance, or health hazard to the neighborhood.

2. No structure that is a nuisance as defined by the Laws of Florida shall be maintained, kept, constructed or placed therein.

3. No garbage, appliances, trash, or debris, shall be dumped, nor be emptied, or be permitted to flow on the property or any part thereof. (Contact the County Landfill for disposal of these items. Household garbage must be picked up by a trash service which is available for contract)

4. Motor homes, campers, boats, trailers, semi-trailers, and all-terraine vehicles shall not be parked in the streets or in yards or apartments/units in Lanark Village as described in the Ordinance.

5. VIOLATIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE A MISDEMEANOR, PUNISHABLE BY IMPRISONMENT IN THE COUNTY JAIL NOT MORE THAN TEN DAYS, OR BY FINE NOT EXCEEDING THREE HUNDRED ($300) DOLLARS OR BOTH. EACH DAY ON WHICH VIOLATION OCCURS SHAL BE A SEPARATE OFFENSE.


If you notice someone violating these ordinances, please contact the Franklin County Sheriff's Office at 697-2113. The Sheriff cannot enforce these laws if he is not aware of violations.
