My Jobs My very first job was working for Western Union the forerunner of the computers of today's world. I worked on the telex and twx machines as a mainline typist. Yes - I did the singing telegram and no I wasn't on key :-). I worked for the Department of Corrections Probation & Parole Field Services for 14 years. As you can imagine this was a very interesting job working in the criminal field. Below is a picture of the Secretary of State Harry Singletary with the State of Florida and one of my most prize pictures. I really enjoyed working with Harry Singletary as he was not in this day and time to come right out and say he was a Christian and always had a prayer at the beginning of each occasion. I am proud to have know Governor Bob Graham (Now Senator Graham), and Governor Lawton Chiles. As you know with any state job most people put you in the category of not working. Well I am here to tell you that I worked the equivalents of three people. We were always short handed and someone had to pick up the slack. Our officers were also always juggling other people's caseload that they sometimes didn't know their own people from another officers. I am not saying people left- we just grew. In the 14 years that I worked in this one office we went from one supervisor, 4 officers and one secretary to 2 supervisors, 18 officers, and 4 secretaries, as you can see not enough secretaries. During this time I have type some Presentence Investigations on some serial killers, just common burglars etc. It got so our court system no longer did Presentence Investigations and were sentenced via Sentencing Guidelines via point system for past records as the court system couldn't keep up. It takes a lot of man power to do a Presentence Investigation. Although I feel the NCIC/FCIC check which sentences them now works very well. We were always going to training, I remember when finally the state came into the 21st century with computers. I was so excited. Of course the system was much more complex than PC as we worked off main frames. I learned most of my html via making up new warrants. One state and as many counties as there are a warrant for each county. Judges like their own way of running the court system :-) and us secretaries had just so much to work with :-) I worked with Ray for a long time when he was a probation officer. He is now a member of the Hernando County Commissioners. But lost his seat in the 1998 fall elections. Panic Disorder-Forward Memorial back HOME
