Read this for proof that this is true. Class E is illegal for these vehicles.

Important Information For Every Driver
Not too many years ago, we had two types of license in Florida: Chauffeur's License and Operator's License.

If you drove for hire, drove a vehicle for your place of work, drove any commercial vehicle (except your own farm vehicles) or drove a school bus, you had to have a Chauffeur's License.

If not, you needed a regular operator's license only, and could drive any vehicle you owned.  About 12 years ago, they changed to the A, B, C, D, and E classes but never told you that you lost many of your driving privileges.

There is another new change in the system getting ready to take place.  What will you lose this time?  Write your representatives and senators and complain. The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has taken privileges from you and making you pay to get them back.

(d) Any person, except a person who possesses a valid Class A, valid Class B, or valid Class C driver's license, who drives a truck or a truck tractor having a gross vehicle weight rating, a declared weight, or an actual weight, whichever is greatest, of 8,000 pounds or more but less than 26,001 pounds, or which has a width of more than 80 inches must possess a valid Class D driver's license. Any person who possesses a valid Class D driver's license may, subject to the appropriate restrictions and endorsements, drive any type of motor vehicle, other than the type of motor vehicle for which a Class A, Class B, or Class C driver's license is required, within this state.

Important Information For Every Car Dealer
If you sell a Suburban, Expedition, a van, or a pickup, you must verify that they have the correct driver's license class before they leave the lot.  If not, you could be sued by the buyer and you could be arrested for permitting a driver to drive a vehicle they are not licensed to drive.

This can also put a large hole in your sales, as how many mothers who want a Suburban have a Class D driver's license?
