On a moonlit night
Early in September
I was awakened
By a riotous sound
Rising from my bed
I gazed out into the moonlight
There, flying in the silver sky
Were hundreds of geese
Making their winter flight
Wings beating in graceful dance
Their resounding voices raised
In deafening chorus
Blocking out the moon
Sliding between wisps of clouds
These majestic symbols of nature
With single minded purpose
Soared above me
Their formations ever altering
 In never ending variety
It seemed that their persistence
Was unfailing
Endurance unknown to other creatures
As they sailed off into the night
