What we are and DO

The Michigan Crocodilian Rescue, is an organization that takes in and finds homes for unwanted crocodilians. We are the only recognised crocodilian rescue, by the Michigan Humane Society. In 2001 we rescued 3 crocodilians, from Michigan waterways, and took in 4 orphaned crocodilians. In 2002 we have resuced 1 from Michigan waterways and taken in 3 orphaned crocodilians. We try to relocate all American Alligators to havens/sanctuaries in the Southeastern US, where they will be introduced to the wild. We try to relocate all Caiman (predominately Caiman Crocodilus) to caiman sanctuaries throughout the US. As of this time we have handled only 1 Nile Crocodile, which was shipped to a private collector in Florida.

While loving these animals and hoping to do the right thing, we also understand that there is SERIOUS need for regulation. We would like to see licensing for those who wish to keep them, in Michigan, which would be obtained only after training and voluteer time.

It truly bothers us to see hundreds of these animals for sale in pet shops, knowing that they will either die from owner neglect, be set free in Michigan waterways (an almost certain Death Sentence), or will end up in our care. We again stress that we love what we do, but as with the Humane Society are being stretched to our limits with the growing numbers of new animals being brought in.

We are neither Profit or Non-Profit. We volunteer oue time and build housing from our own expenses. We don't ask for donations and are not open for public viewing. We are implimenting a program where we will be visiting schools thorughout Michigan for educational purposes.

please email us if you have any questions.
