future plan
purchase secluded lakefront land in rural southern ontario (within roughly an hour of toronto)
if house does'nt already exist, design and build a series of straw-bale bungalows.
-one for living, with wood-stove, solar panels, wonderful kitchen...
-one for music-studio, (with space for instrument collection, rehearsal, instrument building, inspirational items, isolation booths...)
-one for yoga, guests, flotation tank, meditation, reiki sessions, special recordings, music therapy and writing..
when this is ready to exist, you will be able to produce records for yourself, and others from this site. you will also be able to work from home as a reiki therapist. in time, with extra structures, using the space for yoga retreats and things like ayahuasca retreats will be possible. this will bring you into contact with many wonderful people, and their positive influence.
from this home-base, you will be able to tour the world with your own music, plus embark on tours with tasa, thinbuckle and other projects. travelling to toronto will be simple, easy, and sometimes often.
certainly, many people will choose to come here to have you produce and record their music. when the budjet permits, people like mark stewart and/or tom herron can come and engineer projects leaving you free to be strictly creative.
small concerts could even be held for 100 or so people in tents. this might be great after a retreat.
of course a wonderful vegetable garden can exist, as well as a herb garden, and flowers can grow everywhere.
this is not particularly and expensive plan. it will be reachable sooner than you think. the whole place will actually be a money making structure through a record label, reiki sessions, yoga retreats and production work.
in order to prepare for this, you will start a business while in toronto. this will be a combination of a production company that will provide music for film, and televison, plus a label that can house projects not picked up by existing labels.
example releases would be the bass-only album, the project with bob scott, the project with ravi, the project with leah, and other duo projects. the label could start almost immediately in a "burning shack" online burn on demand label.
web-design will be another source of income. you will be able to compete nicely with the $1000 to $1500 price tag others are charging. a great dual-purpose step to bring this considerably closer will be to work with john kalangis on finishing your website more professionally (learning great skills) in exchange for providing music for all, or part of a film he's involved in. this will give you a great demo to use to show your film music talents, plus from then on, you'll have a terrific web-site and all the skills to make great ones for clients.
another angle of this will be the possibility of creating a site for Dhruba Ghosh, in exchange for some sarangi playing on your album.
an overview of the income generating activites you will manifest are:
record producer
record label owner
film composer
web-designer
reiki therapist
music teacher/music therapist
personal concerst/tours
revenue from other musical groups
grant money for composition, study etc.
software inventor (lava)
immediately, you can post the coming 4 grant deadlines up, and work towards specific demos for each, all recorded at home and at derek's with benjamin's help.
once your business is outlined properly, you can apply for any and all types of small business start-up grants that are available. as soon as possible, take the reiki level one course, and start down the path of your own healing, plus a path to heal others.
increase your music teaching as much as possible. consider doing clinics for someone like yamaha, with bob. when your web-site is done, you will be able to send soma, nightlight, and uneven hill out plus additional demo material out to magazines to build up international recognition, and aquire quotes that will cast you in a favourable light for instrument endorsements (godin, reverend) and grant and business proposals.
you can start preparing a study grant application to study with shahid pervez here in toronto. this will be wonderful on many levels, a start to this will be pitch-shifting the steve oda workshop with the ketu rag examples for you to lift.
with 2 to 3 rehearsals a week with bob, you'll be able to quickly land a house gig in toronto. this will bring great local recognition + plus other connections and work. the album for this goup should be undertaken as soon as the arrangements are solid.
here is a list of 5 production credits you will have within a year:
your own album
duo with bob album
duo with ravi album
bass only album
pop project with leah
