Tips For Fishing My Baits

The Shadalac

The Shadalac is a great little twitch bait. Twitch them ,or I like to hold the rod tip low and snap the reel handle half turns with split second pauses in between turns. This will make his little bait come to life, and get the attention of ANY active fish in the area A medium to fast cadence seems to work best.

The Slab

The Slab is very versital. Crank them fast, slow medium However you want. They cast, troll, twitch, and bulge very well. I think the pan fish shape is something that will get a hungry muskies attention anywhere their are pan fish. They have a nice medium width tail shake with an occasional nervice quiver. If you twitch them sometimes they will turn straight sideways during your pause. When you stop them they will back up as they rise!

The Fatboy

My favorite way to fish the fatboy is FAST, FAST,FAST! This is my search bait, I can cover a lot of water in search of active fish with this one. I use 5.3:1 Ratio reels and crank as fast as I can. I have truthfully seen two fish follow these baits speeding through the water at the same time(talk about heart attack!) They have a VERY aggressive action with a wide tail shake and bunches of body roll. They also make a great through back bait.

The EZ-ZZ

This is the first bait I started making. It is made after the old "Crane" jerkbait, but has been refined over the years. It has an unconventional action( about 30 to 45 degrees) instead of going straight out to the side or straight through the water like so many other jerks. They seem to work well when other baits aren't working and have had MANY reports from people telling me that this bait out produced their friend big name jerks in head to head competition( like I said they work when other aren't). I have moved more BIG fish on this bait than any bait I make. The name says it all when it comes to working them, EZ, don't work them too hard. Smooth downward sweeps (about 18 to 24 inches)will do the job at a medium speed. They have a ton of body roll and wiggle inticingly when you just straight crank them.

The Chubby

The Chubby has a slow sink to it, and glides about 18 to 24 inches almost straight out to the side. It seems to work best with a medium speed retrieve and smooth downward sweeps of about the length that you want the bait to glide. Be sure to throw your rod tip back at the bait ,imediately after the sweep, to give a little slack in the line to achieve max glide! All the fish I've caught on this bait have ATE them, so hold on tight! Multi fish days are being reported every couple week ends (mostly with the Carp Pattern). As with all my baits the Chubby works very easily so don't over do it. A couple people have called them "Little Girl Baits" meaning a little girl can work them all day. ( the same guys who called them that have ordered many, many of them. Does that make them little girls? I hope to have an 8 inch model by next spring, maybe it will be a little more Manly!
