Bladensburg Location Information

(Shown above, HTF toy soldiers depicting a British firing formation in the War of 1812)

Bladensburg is in the state of Maryland in the USA.

Bladensburg remains a small town just outside the Northeast corner of Washington DC. It is not much physically different, or far from, the outskirts of DC. It is only six miles from the US Capitol.

Washington D.C. is bordered in part by the Eastern Branch of the Potomac River. This branch is smaller as it reaches northward until, at Bladensburg, it dwindles to a large creek.

The bridge at Bladensburg is the point of separation from Washington. Though the bridge is modern, it is basically this location where the original bridge was where the battle began!

You can get there many ways. This author suggests you take the (approximate) route the US defenders took to get there; Start at the US Capitol, go Northeast up Maryland Ave. which becomes Annapolis Rd..

You will not find much historical information about the Battle there or anywhere near. In Ft. Lincoln Cemetery there is a plaque honoring Commodore Barney and his men's heroic stand, but that is west of the Bridge and not in Bladensburg.
