what title?
Getting to the gym is still hard for me. However, I managed to do it today. So proud of myself. This after about 2-3 days of nonactivity, which I am not proud of. I didn't have time to do all that I wanted to do today. I'm trying to get myself used to going to the gym around the evening time, but I wasn't able to do that today. So I only got cardio in, but that's better than nothing.

I also saw something in an old First magazine issue about metabolism & the "super-foods" for the different types of metabolism - mainly, the foods for your metabolism type that is optimal for weight loss (with exercise, of course). I think I'll try it out and see what happens.

Gym-a-phobia?
So here's the deal - I like working out. I really get a sense of accomplishment I get when I work out. I've been trying to work my upper body out a lot more lately, especially since my lower body is pretty strong compared. I'm finding that I'm having a lot of trouble with the shoulders though. I can barely do a shoulder press and when I work on the deltoid machine, I have to set it at 5 pounds! Yes, I realize that I am a weakling. But liking to work out is not my problem.

My problem happens to be getting myself to the gym. I seem to have a problem with motivating myself to get to the gym. But once I'm there, it's all great. So far, I've been able to do a every other day gym schedule that seems to suit me. I do my cardio, get my strength training in, and take the occasional class.

I did a yoga class yesterday for the first time. man, and I thought that the delt machine was hard. I spent the hour stretching muscles I didn't know could be stretched and in pain because they have never been stretched like that before. Downward facing dog is not my favorite position. It was hard trying to keep my balance in that position. But I figure, if I do this weekly at least, then I should some day gain some sort of flexibility, or at least be able to touch my toes.

Green Tea
I started drinking this green tea thing that says it's specifically for dieters. All I know is that after 2 cups of it (i had to sweeten it with Splenda), I was having to use the bathroom bad! It did say that it flushes toxins out, but after making multiple rounds, I didn't fully realize just how much toxic stuff was in my body! It did bring my weight down a tiny bit, but I suspect that was water weight. Oh well. When I see a difference, I will let you know. If not, I'll still let you know.

It's Just the Beginning...
I know that I wrote down that I wanted to drop to a size 5. Right now I'm a size 10. It's not just, like, vanity's sake that I want to drop a couple of dress sizes. There's also health issues & the fact that I want to get more muscle weight and less fat weight on my frame. Right now I've been doing a combination of cardio and strength training. I'm trying to reach up to doing a 5 mile walk (uphill) without any pain or aches or being out of breath. I'm able to do about 3 miles right now. I'm two miles from my goal, but that's ok. I also remember the shape I was in when I was training to be a lifeguard - my stamina was up, my endurance was up, and I was also (incidently) losing weight. So now I want to be able to swim the required 500 yards. So let's see - the lap pool at my gym is 25 meters, so that means that I would have to swim it back and forth a total of 20 times (10 times round trip) in order to do the 500 yards needed. I'm able to swim about 250 meters, so i'm about half way there. The thing that I'm looking forward to is to retire my size 10 jeans and fit into my size 7's - actually, I only have one size 10 and I've been wearing the size 13 jeans with a belt. i have loads of size 7 and size 5 jeans, so I can't wait to fit into them again. What's the point of having clothes when your hips are too wide to fit into them? Also, I'm looking forward to working out my upper body. My back is my favorite to workout, but my arms do need the attention too, and I'm realizing so does my chest, although when I did, it hurt too much! *sigh* oh well.

studying for the GRE has been pretty boring. I'm finding that the analogy part of the written is the bane of my existence. If I don't get it down, I'll fail that part of the written. I'm not even looking forward to the math section. Maybe I should brush up on some algebra. Just in case.

15. spend more time with friends via e-mail, in person, on the phone, etc.

21. try to get the family history down on paper

25. study (& possibly take) a subject GRE
26. take up old interests and see what sticks
27. travel the length of the trail from start to finish - not walking!
