Brother John Erb and Family. Even though he is technically a step-brother, we have always considered him "blood." He was always the responsible one, Mom and Dad counted on him for a lot and he never let them down. Of course, he did lock the door that time in High School when  I snuck out and went to the movies with Karen Walsh . . . Oh yeah, the responsible one. We love you Johnny!

Dad met Derene in Wildwood after Catherine passed away. She drove by one day he was raking leaves, he liked what he saw and hung out in the yard every day until he saw her again. She was on her way to the church across the street, a Presbyterian church that had once been a barn. She brought three children to the marriage, Donna, John and Dawn Erb.  Derene was an unhappy person who couldn't overcome her personal problems and it affected her parenting abilities. We resolved our differences, however, and built a good relationship the last few years of her life.  Derene was always starved for attention and would have been gratified at the notice her death brought. She was run over by her own mini van in a freak accident. It made the TV and the newspaper. While it sounds rather morbid, it was a fitting end for her. Her worst nightmare was to waste away in a hospital or nursing home.

What can one say about Dawn and her husband Leo that won't get censored by a V chip? I am including photos of her children because they really had no choice as to who their parents would be. And I have a real soft spot for Michael. Then there's Donna. I didn't hear from her for over twenty five years. Not when Derene died, not when Dad died. Not until she heard that Dad left a little money behind. Did she ask how I was, what I had been doing these past years, express sorrow over our losses? No -- she asked me where the money came from. (Sorry Meg, I tried but guess I am just not above it)
