Activity 1
Compounding
The purpose of this activity is to improve your ability to recognize compound words.
This is a simple and useful activity. It only takes 15 minutes.
Materials: A good dictionary (suggestion- Webster's English Dictionary). Have paper and pencil/pen.
  1. Invite 2 or 3 classmates to join you for this activity.
  2. Start making up compounds.
  3. Guess the pronunciation and meaning.
  4. Look up to see if they are in the dictionary.

Activity 2
Practice Your Affixes 
The main goal of this activity is to improve your ability to recognize unknown words.
This activity only takes 30 minutes.
Materials: paper, pencil/pen and an article 
  • Invite 2 or 3 classmates to join you for this activity.
  • Pick a passage of a topic of your interest (5 paragraphs of 5-6 sentences each).
  • While you read the passage, underline the root, circle the prefixes and the suffixes.
  • After you all finish reading, discuss your findings and the meaning of words depending upon the root meaning and the added affixes.
  • As a guide, use Table of Affixes

Activity 3
Dictocomps
The purpose of this activity is to improve your listening, comprehension and vocabulary skills.
This fun and useful activity only takes 30 minutes.
Materials: Make sure each of you has a piece of paper and pencil/pen to write.
  1. Invite 2 or 3 classmates to join you for this activity.
  2. Turn on CNN news in English.
  3. Set the timer (clock timer) for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Start jotting down notes while the reporter is talking. 
  5. Stop when the timer rings.
  6. Compare notes with your classmates.
  7. Start composing the text/information as loyal as you can.
  8. When the reporter recapitulates the story, you can compare your information with the reporter's.
