What my father, Leo Adent, told me about his Uncle Pete:

Peter came to America with his brothers and sister. He started Adent's Ice & Coal Company at 742 W. 120 th. street on Chicago's south side. According to Irene Truit, her father, Julijonas, worked as a delivery driver for the plant. It is also reported that my grandfather, Paul, also delivered ice for the plant.

At sometime, possibly around 1911/1915, there was an explosion and fire at the ice plant, which killed Peter's wife. My dad reported that she died while saving her infant son or daughter (possibly son, John). In a telephone conversation with Irene Truit in November of 2001, she said that she remembered the explosion but wasn't exactly sure of when it happened. She remembered that her family was living at 12243 Wallace Ave. in Chicago at the time.

During the time, after the explosion, Peter went back to Lithuania to set up an electric company to provide service to remote areas. I remember hearing about how he also tried to reclaim land belonging to the family.

For some reason, unclear to my dad, Peter returned broke. The thought was that he was "run out of town." It is thought that he remarried while in Lithuania and returned to America to settle in Michigan and start a new life.

The photo might be a wedding photo of Peter's third marriage, three daughters from his first marriage, and three sons from his second marriage.

Now this is my account from memory. If anyone can help with more details, clarification, and/or names associated with the photograph, please contact me.

**NOTE** New information has come to my attention. The passenger list shows Peter returning from abroad April 20, 1923 with a woman, possibly his new wife from Lithuania, named Stanislausa. Also, what is interesting a 9-month old baby boy named Vytantas is also on the list with them. This is possibly the wife that died in the Ice Plant explosion trying to save the infant. So, the explosion had to have occurred after Vytantas was born August 1922. Either his mother or Stanislausa was the mother that died in the fire. But I think Stanislausa was a replacement for the wife/mother that died. These names found on the manifest are helpful pieces to this puzzle.
