The Green River Killer

Background
Willaim J. Stevens was the main suspect in the Green River murders in 1989. He escaped from King County Work Release program in 1981. He lived mostly in the Portland area after he ecaped in January 1981. He then moved back to Spokane, WA and attended Gonzaga University Law school till his capture in January 1989.

Motives
Police think that the Green River killer was taking part in a cleansing ritual. They also believe he had a history of relationship problems with women who caused him a great deal of humiliation.

Conviction/Trial
Because of Stevens alibis that placed him on trips with his parents out of the area, he was eventually released and clear of all charges stating that he was the Green River Killer. Therefore, there was never a conviction or trial.

Facts About Victims
The victims were of similar age and background. They were dumped in or near the same stretch of river.

Method of Killing
Some of his victims were strangled with their own articles of clothing. Two of the victims had similar rocks inserted in their vaginas.

Miscellaneous Facts
*Ted Bundy assisted in the search for the Green River Killer
*Police found 35 guns, several drivers liscenses under different names and a box that contained 50 sexually explicted pictures of nude prostitues which police believe Stevens took himself. None were of the victims killed.
* Friends of Stevens informed the police that he hated prostitues and openly spoke of humiliating them.
*Stevens hated blacks and wanted to use violence against them.
* On September 30,1991 William J. Stevens died of cancer.
