Mike McRae now Columbia warden
"Mike McRae is a fair & mostly decent man who was moved to Columbia C.I."
In Crosby’s first or second year as secretary, he allegedly “knocked out” a CO at a BBQ or party of some sort at Tomoka CI. This CO allegedly made a pass at Crosby’s wife…..and Crosby allegedly “sucker punched” him on the jaw, knocking him down and out. Do you know anyone from TCI who might verify?
If you have any information on this incident, please contact me,

"I've been reading the New Wardens List and it looks really good. The only change I see right off that needs made is the one for Tomoka C.I."
Randall Bryant was promoted to Warden...and he's definitely NOT worth a Gold Star! Bryant's nickname is "Lying Bryant".

What's Happening at Tomoka Since Colonel Lampp Arrived?

URGENT SEARCH FOR
PARENTS of BEATEN PRISONER
Last evening when I phoned Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, the nurse said that Alexander Ferrar was in critical (but stable) condition at that time. She said he was on a ventilator. This morning at 4am the nurse who answered refused to give any information.
An inmate named Carmichael was beaten last week (but not critical).
One prisoner named Joseph Calhoun has been allowed by the Medical Staff to not take his medication. Joseph Calhoun is a seriously psychotic inmate. He's not been on his proper dosage of meds (Thorazine).
Joe's own confession is that he doesn't like whites and was taught to hate all whites as his enemy. Calhoun has basically terrorized the dorm for several weeks now. When he gets into a fight he might spend one night in the "jail" but he gets released the next day! Calhoun was the agitator for this unfortunate beating that took place between Alexander Ferrar #X35386 and Saffore #737381.
As in John Felty's case, we have to ask, WHERE were DOC guards/Officers when this beating took place? The "night light" is bright enough that you can write a letter or draw a picture, so WHY didn't DOC guards/Officers intervene?

TROUBLE AT TOMOKA
December 15, 2002Naming
Colonel Edwards
Colonel Edwards, who was previously at Sumter C.I., is reported to now be hatching up a lot of trouble at Tomoka CI. One report coming in is that Col. Edwards is reportedly trying to shut down the wood hobby crafts. Another report states that, starting next week, during the day, ALL inmates not employed by the kitchen, or in P.R.I.D.E. jobs will be REQUIRED to be out on the Rec yard!!! That's about 600 people who will be confined in a small area WITHOUT A TOILET and NO WATER FOUNTAINS! Not to mention the prisoners with no shoes:
"Hi. Just an informative note here. Today I visited with my son and met two of his friends as they were visiting with their families. One Young man said "Oh, ya want to see how good my shoes are?" and he picked up his foot displaying a LARGE hole in the bottom of his black canvas shoe!!! There was nothing but the boy's tattered sock between his foot and the cold wet ground!!! He'd already asked for another pair and an officer told him he'd have to wait! The other young man's shoes were in WORSE Condition!!!
These guys have NO other shoes!!!! I came away horrified at the lack of concern these "officers" have in keeping these men healthy!!!! Even if money was put into their accounts for tennis shoes (even the $18.00 pair), they can't order the shoes UNTIL FEBRUARY!!!!!! Ain't that a crock?"
MTWT'S NEWEST PROJECT:
Announcing the latest LOLIT effort
It has come to our attention that many of the prisons in Florida are limited on their shoe supply. Prisoners from various institutions are reporting holes in their shoes, ill-fitting shoes, and a total lack of shoes. Families have reported seeing the proof of this in some of the prison visiting rooms. This is an effort to correct this problem.

Kay,
This is information from TOMOKA CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION in Daytona Beach, FL:"I know its an old issue...BUT inmates still have an toilet paper problem at Tomoka. Instead of using kleenex for my sinus infection this week I used 1 roll of toilet paper (standard size) from MON - FRI. An inmate pen-pal said, "one rolls usually enough unless someone gets the flu or runs. Then you could go through 2 or more rolls a week."
The TOMOKA C.I. inmate is very opinionated and has a lot of issues regarding ARAMARK. BUT getting extra TP is done this way...
1. You take the empty paper roll to "whoever"...turn in the empty roll and they're supposed to issue you a second roll!
2. At the regular time of issuing TP the following week IF you have paper left on that second roll they gave you, you don't get another!!"Even my son said"mom sometimes its not worth the hassle... IF the guards find more than one roll in your locker, they write you up. The second roll might have only a few sheets left on it, but you'll still get written up depending on the guard/officer who sees it."
Doesn't DOC realize how unsanitary it is to not provide adequact TP?
Upset Mother
Sat, 1 Jun 2002 - LOCKDOWN
WHY Tomoka CI was in lock-down today?
I heard from a nervous mom that Tomoka CI was in LockDown today.
"I called Tomoka CI about 8:oopm and the man who answered the phone at the desk said "oh, lock down was because we had some inspections...and oh yeah, I think visitation went on as scheduled...but when everyone's in lock down no one phones out."
A prisoner reported the lock-down was said to be due to security reasons, which is the blanket answer for everything with the DOC... I guess it certainly does make a guard's life more secure, and a lot easier too, I'll bet, if he doesn't have to take his feet off the desk and let the men out to make their phone calls.

There was another guard busted at Tomoka C.I. this past week also. Taken off the compound in cuffs. The rumor is it was for drugs too, but I haven't heard the "Official" report yet.

DELAND -- A state corrections officer was the latest person arrested after an investigation of a Deltona-based escort service that authorities say was a prostitution ring.
Investigators said James A. Otte, 49, would perform sex acts with potential prostitutes to ensure they were experienced enough to work for Elegant Encounters. If they did get hired, Otte, husband of Elegant Encounter`s owner Diane Fratello, would brief the women on how to avoid getting arrested.
Otte, a corrections officer at Tomoka Correctional Institute in Daytona Beach, was arrested late Monday on charges of racketeering and conspiracy to commit racketeering. He`s being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $100,000 jail.
State corrections officials said Otte has been a corrections officers since September 1999. On Monday afternoon, officials said Otte will be fired from his job.
Otte is the fifth person to face felony charges stemming from a widespread investigation of the escort service by the Volusia County Sheriff`s Office and other agencies. On Wednesday, Fratello and two of the female escorts were charged with racketeering. On Thursday, James P. Burnelle, 39, of Deltona was charged with 12 counts of getting a person younger than 18 to become a prostitute and two counts of committing sex acts with a minor.
In addition to running the escort service, Fratello is accused of working as a prostitute in her business. Some of the sexual encounters arranged through Elegant Encounters took place at a home in Deltona owned by Otte and Fratello, investigators said.
Otte, Fratello and the two female escorts are accused of racketeering because authorities said they were making money from an ongoing criminal enterprise. After arresting Otte, investigators seized a Mustang Cobra and a motorcycle he purchased with illegal profits from the escort business, the Sheriff`s Office said.

Under ConstructionMy First Visit to Tomoka C.I.
February 2004As I Walked from the car to the front of Tomoka, I was a little worried as to what I'd see. Most of the other prisons here in Florida that I've been to are filled with nasty officers and a cold and uninviting VP park. As a mother of a Florida Correctional officer, I have heard many things and have always been very unpleased with most of the staff I have had a change to meet and talk with, so I do tend to watch things closely.
As I came closer to the control center, I found that some things were done differently at Tomoka, and that is fine. I was worried more about the goings on within the facility than the way they processed you into the place.
As I walked though the front door, off to my right there was the most beautiful drawing done on the wall, something I'd never seen done on any wall in any prison before. As I started to enter the VP, I was overcome with all the beautiful paintings and just had to walk from one to the other to get a better look. I learned that these drawing are done by inmates. There are so many inmates with such talent here! It's hard to figure out why Col Lampp is trying to have all this done away with.
I was very impressed and already I started to feel a warm feeling coming from within. But I warned myself to hold back for a bit. This facility, from what I could see, is a very well run facility, but the notorious Colonel Lammp has been trying to turn the place into a controlled movement camp. I had no idea what to expect on this visit.
I had a chance to watch very closely the way the staff at the VP conducted themselves with both inmates and their families. And to my amazement I found a few to be very nice and able to treat both inmates and families with respect and kindness. I noticed that in return they are treated with the same respect as they give. And that's as it should be.
I had the opportunity to meet a a c/o who is very well thought of by the families as well as the inmates. Her name is officer Garrard (hope I'm spelling it right), and I'd like to nominate her for an MTWT Gold Star. Inmates and families alike agree that she is a very fair and treats all with kindness until crossed! Then beware, for she gives you what you reap, but what impressed me more was her very caring heart with the children. That would impress any mother such as myself who had 10 children of her own to raise and care for. Now why, I ask myself, why can't the DOC hirer more officers with this officer's qualities? She does her job well and STILL gets the respect with out all the threats and abuse. Hats off to you Sergeant Garrard you are truly a "Professional" Correctional Officer, We can only pray that there are more like you out there and less with the qualities of Col Lampp.
I also had the opportunity to attend Sunday Services at the Chapel and was very pleased at what I found. The inmates' performances. Their singing and readings were very uplifting and you could see that they all were very into it.
I was also able to get some more information on the way the Faith Base Dorm is handled. Most of the inmates say that there is too much politics involved and that it shouldn't be that way. Politics should never play any part in a Faith Base Dorm area, but it does. They say that the program itself is very good but it could and would be even better with out all the politics and policies and most are upset over it.
I myself do not understand why this camp is only HALF Faith Based.....I think it should be all Faith Based. You can not handle these guys who are in this program or who have attended this program in the same way that you handle the rest of this camp.
Many of the man that are attending this program tell me that they are having a hard time getting to the canteen and that by the time they do get there everything is gone. A time should be set a side for these man to get what they need from the canteen without it being all sold out.
I'd like to say a little something about the prices in the vending machines. In the VP, an .89 cent juice is $2.00. In fact, there isn't anything below $3.25 in the machines. I think $4.00 for a hamburger is a little over priced unless you're serving it on a gold plate and it's handed to you by a guard. The officers DON"T pay that.
When I first walked into Tomoka, I walked straight down the hall and though a doorway that had vending machines so I thought I was in the VP. I soon realized I was in the room set aside for the guards. So I quickly walked out the door - but NOT before I noticed the prices on their machines. It seems that they pay half the price we do for food and drink. Soda within the park is $1.00 it's only .50 cents for the officers.
Mr Crosby I think you should do something here. Folks...it's just one more way to screw the families out of money, like they do with so many other things. They only let you bring in 25.00 dollars but yet they keep raising the prices in the machines. I think the policy should up the amount of money you can bring into the park in direct ratio to the prices they charge for vended items.
All and all the visit at Tomoka was much more pleasant than at any other facility I have been to in this state. And I will be asking Mr Crosby not to allow Col Lampp to destroy a perfectly good camp by turning it into a pile of dog mess. Col Lampp isn't needed or wanted there...maybe he should chill out and try to be a human being and maybe, just maybe he too can get the respect that Officer Garrard gets.
GOLD Star nomination for Tomoka Visiting Park pending the removal of Col Lampp.
