"Santa Rosa CI:
Officer Koran is a wonderful guard. I had concerns about my friend in prison and CO Koran was gentle and kind. He answered all of my questions with patience and was extremely understanding. He gave me the number and name of people I could talk with that could give me more information. He went above and beyond the call of duty to be polite and helpful. Kudos to him. I also have the inside word that he is a fair guard who treats inmates with respect and dignity. Thank God for guards like him. Now only if we could get more to model after him."

MILTON, Fla. - The director of Santa Rosa County's jail was charged with drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident, police said Tuesday.
Maj. Dottie Lewis Way, 59, of Pensacola, was arrested Sunday after witnesses said she hit a car and then left the scene. No injuries were reported.
A witness told police she had to go into a bar to find Way after the crash, the Pensacola News Journal reported.
Way told police she had been drinking at a bar before the crash. She said she felt she hit something on the road while trying to make a U-turn, but she didn't know what it was, then returned to the bar parking lot, according to a police arrest report.
She refused to take a sobriety test.
Santa Rosa County Sheriff Wendell Hall said disciplinary action is pending the results of the criminal case.
"Everything will be treated as normal until that time," Hall said. "She's a superb, model employee and extremely knowledgeable in the field of detention. Everybody knows Dottie. This is a very unfortunate incident."

Santa Rosa's Inspector Russo told me almost proudly that, due to the numbers of mental health inmates there, Santa Rosa leads the state of Florida in the use of pepper spray.
Although my notes indicate that Insp. Rosso took my phone call the day we talked about pepperspray, ventilation, and mental health, he doesn't recall having the conversation with me. So, in deference to the errors of the common man, technology, and the many times I was switched to someone new during the phone call, I will state here that I am only 99 and 9/10 percent sure that it was Inspector Russo who took my call that day. If it wasn't him, I'm sure he will be happy to go through the logs for us and see who did explain the DOC's mental health care program to me.

POSSIBLY ERRANT GUARD LIST

FROM AN EX-SANTA ROSA GUARD
Dear Kay,
I have little fear of repercussions from the D.O.C. It's also my belief that the identity of your source should all ways remain confidential in the initial part of any reporting. It seems to give the respondent less time to dig up "dirt". I would love to speak to the reporter.Jeb allows this evil machine to continue to steam forward! I have opposed "people warehousing" from day one. There is no rehabilitation in the system! My job was sacrificed.."budget cuts"
I know as well as you that people who try to make a difference are thought of as "weak"..the weak link is always broken.
Please keep me abreast of your endeavors.
