These funds were to build a new district office and last weekend they were supposedly asking for donations. Of course that is second hand info since I wasn't actually there. But its odd I think..."
RASH OF SUICIDES IN FLORIDA PRISONS
We all know there is no way I'm going to find out about all the suicides. Used to there was at least a little blurb in the paper when a prisoner committed suicide. Now it is so common there's rarely a word.
July 03, 2004 "...He witnessed a suicide about two weeks ago. Lake C. I. was on controlled movement. The inmate yelled out "Psych Emergency" and the guard told him, "Wait until we can move (or something to that effect)" but he didn't wait, he slit his wrists. My man said the next he knew, the guy was lying on the ground, shaking, bleeding to death. He died. My loved one also reported that "this" happens about three times per week in there. I am not certain if he means that folks are committing suicide 3 x per week or if they are screaming out, "Psych emergency" approx. 3 x per week; I only know that it is very disturbing and I feel that the paying public is not aware of these incidents. Perhaps you can enlighten them."
Historical Information: This facility was originally established as a migrant labor camp, but more recently housed a bait farm and beverage distribution warehouse. In 1973 it was converted to house adult male inmates. It is designated to accept minimum, medium, close custody and all medical grade inmates. Lake C.I. provides academic, vocational and self-betterment programs.
Directions: This Institution is 6 miles north of Clermont on US-27. From SR-50, turn north on US-27, facility is 10 miles on the left. From Florida Turnpike Northbound, take Exit 285 and turn left (south) on US-27, facility is 3 miles on right. From Florida Turnpike Southbound, take Exit 289 and turn right (south) on US-27, facility is seven miles on the right.
