Dear Mr. Ashcroft,

Enclosed you will find Justice Petition Number Two concerning Equal Justice for all, including correctional officers. The first package, which you, representing the Justice Department, received by registered mail on May 30, 2002 (signed for by Ernest Parker)  included the signatures of 724 people.  These signatures don't fully represent all the people who are protesting the behavior of the State Attorney, the court, and the breakdown of the justice system, not only in Florida, but across the nation.  Therefore, this second package is being sent to you... and a third and fourth if necessary.

We have gone to this great effort because all these people want you to know we are tired of the double standard of justice that is so prevalent in the USA today.  We want ALL criminals to be held accountable, not just the ones who don't hold positions of authority (or have friends who do).

It has been nearly impossible to make cops, guards, politicians and their families own their crimes. These signatures should assure you, the public does notice, disapprove and reject the double standard.

I'm sure you know that here in Florida recently nine brutal, unrepentant murderers went free. We seek justice in the Frank Valdes case http://www.angelfire.com/fl4/prison/valdesrelease.html We are about to enter another similar situation in the Archie Davis death (http://www.angelfire.com/fl5/davis)

We want the entire Florida Department of "Corrections" cleaned up and our Secretary of Corrections seems unable or unwilling to do so.  The corruption, abuse, and arrogance of many of the employees of that system has escalated since the February 2002 Valdes verdict.  The decision last month to drop all charges on the remaining, untried guards has put prisoners in jeopardy, put additional stress on the families, and cost the public the peace of mind in knowing that the system really works.

We ask that the Justice Department come to Florida and do an honest, impartial, and full investigation of the out-of-control system and put them all under Federal control.  We will not stop until Florida's prison system lives up to the Department of Corrections' Mission Statement:

"The Department of Corrections protects the public by operating a safe, secure, humane and efficient corrections system."

We, the undersigned, expect true justice for the brutal murder of Frank Valdes We are requesting a fair trial at the federal level.

We expect ALL laws to apply equally to those in positions of authority over others. We want justice and we want the killings and the beatings by the guards to stop and those in uniform to be held accountable, just as ordinary citizens would be held accountable.

THE LAW MUST APPLY TO PRISON GUARDS TOO!

We have a right to expect fair and equal justice in any and all future cases against the prison guards of Florida.

We want the Florida DOC put under Federal Jurisdiction until the Goals of the Department are met:

Protect the public, staff and inmates.
Develop staff committed to professionalism and fiscal responsibility.
Ensure victims and stakeholders are treated with dignity, sensitivity and respect in making and executing administrative and operational decisions
Prepare offenders for re-entry and release into society
