THE FOOD SITUATION AT HENDRY IS REAL BAD.

They run out of food here to feed the kids: for example, when they run out of meat,
they substitute a piece of bread  for the meat.

FOOD IS BAD.   SOMETIMES INEDIBLE.    THEY RUN OUT OF FOOD!
HOW CAN THEY RUN OUT OF FOOD?

Water fountain in visiting park:  The water is nasty!

Ladies Room in visiting park: There are no doors in the stalls,
so the ladies have no privacy.

This prison is dirty...

Hendry is called the "gladiator camp", because the inmates run wild,  they stab each other, and hit each other with "locks in socks".

The mail is extremely slow at this location.  Why? Because the mail room does NOT deliver it. We are in the process of gathering more proof of this statement.

Subject: NAMING A NAME AT HENDRY CI----YOUTHFUL OFFENDER CHOKED

Naming a name at Hendry CI for choking my son.

According to DOC, Officer Mosher (sp?) ALLEGEDLY choked my son.

According to ME, Officer Mosher DID INDEED wrap a cloth around my son's neck and choke my child! My son does NOT lie!

From an officer I checked the DC Website and looked-up your son .  He doesn't look familiar but reminds me of someone who "checked in" and needed to call home to let his family know where he was. No one at work would take the time to help this person and his room-mate (they checked-in together).  I was the only one, who took it upon my self to secure everyone in that confinement wing, and allowed both these guys to call their family. Another time, I reported for duty and took over the confinement wing, only to find out an inmate was in a cell -- without clothes or linen for over 7 HOURS!  I found it hard to accept they didn't know about this and called for an officer to report to F-Dorm to get this kid's property.  Needless to say, NO ONE came, and so I left the confinement unit and personally obtained this kid's property from F-Dorm. On my way out of F-Dorm, I was greeted by Captain J. L. Gause and chastised for doing what I had done, threatened with abandoning my post and so on.  When I "attempted" to inform him about this kid who was without clothes, linen, and standing on a piece of mattress on a COLD FLOOR, his reply was, "I don't give a damn about that inmate Sarge... get on back to your dorm! That's just ONE example of many I can attest to.  I'm glad that dump is shutting down -- I really hope it does.  Fact is we all make mistakes in life, and I always felt that "inmates" are being punished enough by being denied their freedom.  It's my job to counsel, set an example, and rehabilitate -- "CORRECTIONS."  It's not my job to belittle, call these kids, "Worthless pieces of shit..." (and worse), and do what I saw done to them.  Lots of CORRUPTION going on at Hendry.  Things that shouldn't go unnoticed and/or unreported!"

Actually, my son is in prison for not lying!

My son has a bullet lodged in his neck, due to being a state witness. In fact, he is in prison today stemming from being a state witness, because, after he was shot at and after his friends (other potential state witnesses) were brutally stabbed, and because the police REFUSED to hold these  stabbers accountable, my son took the law into his own hands! I know this does not excuse my son for his wrongful actions. BUT Officer MOSHER should also be held accountable for his actions!

This choking aggravated my son's injury to his neck and my son's health is not good!

The "investigation", as the DOC calls it, proved nothing!  Inmates are all liars and all guards tell the truth and they are not going to depart from this!

The DOC is corrupt and I hope this new antiterroism bill is applied to the DOC, where Terrorism from the guards is an ongoing problem and I will continue to speak out for all the wrongs, the pure evilness, and the wickedness that the DOC is allowed to get away with!

Hoping the anti terrorism law applies to DOC, too,

TO MOTHER, LINDY:

Wish there was more that I could do but I did send an e-mail to the warden of Hendry.  I am an ex-employee of the DOC and am actually ashamed to say so but learned a valuable lesson about the kind of people we have running our prison system.  My prayers are with you entirely and I know that God will do good and take care of your son's tormentors. 

My advise to you is to not take no for an answer from anyone.  You demand in letters, by phone, by fax, by any means necessary to have you son put in a safe place away from the gangs.  It can be done so don't let any of them tell you it can't.  Inmates are moved every single day for any number of reasons and this reason doesn't make it because it for the most part don't matter to the people working it. 

During my time with DOC I often wondered what some of these people would do or how different they would react if it were there child or Mom or Dad.  It is sad to say some would act no different but most would be doing exactly what you are doing.  You don't let them get to you and you fight with all you have to fight with, for your son.  He don't deserve what he is getting in there no matter what he did to get the sentence he got.  No one deserves the treatment that is dealt behind those gates.

I am ashamed that I can't do more to change what I know to be true.  My prayers are with you and your family.     ace2@atlantic.net

The change machine did not operate during visiting hours on the weekend of August 11th 2001, and I had a $ 5 dollar bill left to buy us a soda and  a snack, but the change machine was out of quarters , so I tried to drink from the water fountain, and it was the nastiest water, I have ever had in my life!  Canteen machines were basically empty!"

VISITORS BATHROOM:  COME PREPARED.  There is no running water to wash your hands.  It is a dirty bathroom.

DRINKING WATER PUBLIC NOTICE
HENDRY CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTE
WATER TREATMENT PLANT

SITUATION:

Recent laboratory analyses indicate that drinking water samples from the HENDRY CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTE water treatment plant, contained a concentration of Total Trihalomethanes (TTHMs) higher than what is allowed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Quarterly samples collected on March 4, August 5, September 9, and October 28, 1998, indicate that the running annual average TTHM concentration was 0.1863 milligrams per liter (mg/L). The drinking water standard for TTHMs is 0.100 mg/L

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The Hendry Correctional Institute water system is required to take corrective action for the TTHM MCL violation.

The MOSQUITO PROBLEM IS BAD!

One cannot even sit outside without thousands of  mosquitos landing on you. Hendry is in  swampland, but gee, with over a billion(s) dollars set aside for DOC, one would think, they could spray or something!

Mr. Stewart,

I am writing  to find out WHY the prisoners are NOT allowed to purchase vitamins and antibacterial soap from the canteen.

My son is having some extreme health problems related to the food being served.

My son just turned 19 years old and he lost 20 pounds within 2 months. He did NOT have any weight to lose to begin with!

I suggested that he purchase vitamins from the canteen and now I find out, this Florida DOC does not allow vitamins to be sold to the prisoners. Even Indiana allows prisoners to purchase vitamins!!

Since it is well known, that sickness thrives in the prison, why can't the prisoners purchase ANTI_BACTERIAL soap?
They can purchase Dove, Ivory, Irish Spring, but these are NOT anti-bacterial soaps.
Furthermore, they are supplied with an extremely harsh soap that PRIDE makes, and this is NOT anti-bacterial either. Do you want germs to keep spreading?

Is this the reason?

Please let me know and also let me know how many signatures you need or how many letters you need in order to put ANTI_BACTERIAL SOAP and VITAMINS on the canteen list.
