FDOC WARDENS LISTS

NOTE: Wardens are frequently changing in FDOC. This link brings up the most current list of Warden's and Administrator, although it's accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. It used to come out every two months, but the latest one is dated January 9, 2006 yet still has Allen Clark listed at New River: http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/cjst/publications/AgencyAddresses/CorrectionLabels.pdf

A past history of wardens lists as they are archived on MTWT

Cross City is in Region II.  That bothers me some because of James Crosby, who is the ex-warden of Florida State Prison, where guards are extremely brutal, and nine of them in Crosby's employe once murdered a skinny little inmate named Frank Valdes. Since the murder, Crosby was made Director of region II. *SEE NOTE BELOW

*NOTE: Early in 2003, James Crosby was made Secretary of the DOC. Early in 2006 James Crosby was fired. For full details see http://www.angelfire.com/oz/today/jamescrosby.html

March 30, 2004  "I got word over the weekend that a few outside contractors came to Cross CI to talk to a lot of the Inmates there to offer them relocation closer to Jacksonville if they are willing to build their own prisons and have some background in construction. They are wanting inmates to work on Columbia's Annex. I guess they are back to building the annex again."

All I can say is, "Guys, don't go to Columbia CI. That place is a nasty piece of work!"       Kay Lee

Hi Kay Lee,

Here's an observation I made about Cross City CI (CC) that may be suitable for your web page on that Gulag.

With a listed capacity of 690, Cross City CI (CC) has 781 guys. I read many of their names myself. I noticed quite a few lifers so I got interested in how they differ from the lifers in Apalachee W. Those lifers in Apalachee W. are often in their forties, fifties and a few older and comprise about 9% of population.

More of the lifers in CC tend to be younger and some older and make up 32% of the men there.

CROSS CITY CI Historical Information: In 1972 the Legislature provided funds to convert an abandoned Air Force Base to a correctional facility. Cross City C.I. was originally established as an educational facility, housing minimum and medium custody inmates. Currently it houses adult male inmates. It is designated to accept minimum, medium, close custody and limited medical grade inmates. Cross City Work Camp is under the supervision of Cross City C.I.

THIS WEBPAGE is under construction.

We have not tried to make the walls transparent here before.  Florida has more than 130 facilities and lots of them have major problems that draw our attention.

Now we have some loved ones who need to see inside the walls at Cross CIty.

New information will be added as it is received.

The information on the DOC site about Cross City - if indeed all is as they say - indicates that this prison is better equiped than most in Florida.
