Kudos to Century - Feb 2006
"We just spoke on the phone about your web site. I mentioned that my dealings with Century CI have been very positive thus far. I've spoken with Warden Freeman, Assistant Warden in charge of programs Hall, Chaplain Williams, Chaplain Hughes, all at Century, and with Chaplain Taylor in Tallahassee. Those I spoke with from Tallahassee and thru the Century CI system regarding a Christmas goody bag project were very helpful and supportive. The warden in charge of projects was helpful with a recent effort to provide library books for inmates. I wanted to respond to you in writing to be sure Century would get the 'at-a-boys' they deserve. Thanks for your efforts and information."

Hi Kay, I just wanted to nominate Warden Jim Freeman of Century Correctional Institution in Century, FL for a Gold Star. He's a good man, and when one of his employees in the mailroom mishandled my son's legal packet and announced the contents to the world, he took care of it promptly.
He runs a clean camp, the COs treat the inmates with respect and the families as well. On the floor outside visitor check-in, there is a sign that says "We believe in the value of the individual". And this is the way Warden Freeman runs his camp.
The assistant warden, Mr. Underwood, is also a good guy. He was very supportive when he also talked with my son about the mail problem. He came to the visiting park one day when we were there, was very pleasant to the visiting families and kicked butt on the vendors who were supposed to be re-supplying the vending machines.
By and large, the COs there are laid back unless they absolutely have to get rough. They seem to be intelligent enough to realize that if they don't make life hard for the inmates, their job is much easier. My son was there for 7 months and never saw a single incident of misconduct on the part of these officers.
As always, thank you for all you do.

Update on Century Correctional
Friday, December 12, 2003
Hi Everyone! There have been some changes at Century over the past couple of months.
1. New warden.....don't know his name yet but have been told by some of the inmates that he has implemented changes and things are starting to get somewhat better there. [Warden Freeman is the current warden.]
2. The Deputy Warden Florez who was there is now gone!!!! That was a major beef with the inmates as he was a major part of the problem there.
Visitation was much more relaxed than I have seen it in a long time.

Please Help - NW Florida Century CI
Thursday, January 10, 2002 6:45 AMHi everyone, I have also started a group of my own called CenturyCIWives. I am looking for wives and significant others, parents or just friends of inmates in Century CI.
My husband was just given 15 yrs to spend at this place. He is 100% disabled and is supposed to be in a wheelchair. The officials at this prison won't look at his medical records, that I gave to the Walton County Jail after he was arrested, because "someone could have altered them".
My husband, Michael DC#061686 has advanced degenerative disc disease in his neck and spine as well as several other very painful conditions in his spine. In his medical records is a prescription for a wheelchair, but he doesn't have on because while he was outside, we could not afford one. He was declared 100% disabled by a Social Security Judge back in May of last year.
Century is a work camp, and they have him mowing the grass with a mower that doesn't even have a motor in it. While on the outside, his med for pain was morphine, the only thing he get at Century is "Ibuprofen" that doesn't even begin to help his pain.
Someone, I think it was "Aunt Bea" told me to try to get him moved to somewhere else like Avon Park, but I don't know where to even start.
Last night we were talking and he told me that world renowned tel-evangelist Joyce Meyer's people had come to the prison and given personal hygiene bags containing toiletry items for each prisoner. Well it seems that the ones on G Dorm didn't get them, the "guards" took theirs.
I also need to know how I find out when I have been approved to visit my husband. I can't get anyone to tell me anything.
Please, if you have any suggestions on what I can do to help him. Please, please, please let me know.
Thanks, Tracy
