FDOC WARDENS LISTS
NOTE: Wardens are frequently changing in FDOC. This link brings up the most current list of Warden's and Administrator, although it's accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. It comes out every two months: http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/cjst/publications/AgencyAddresses/CorrectionLabels.pdf
For a past history of wardens lists they are archived on MTWT at

"Whatever is going on in that place, it is rumored the ex-warden was in on it too! Reportedly ex-Warden Folson is a very bad man, and very good at "bullshitting" families and friends of the prisoners."
It's possible we don't yet have proof that would convict him of being "a very bad man", but we certainly have plenty of testimony about his skill at "Bullshitting!"
VISITING CALHOUN CHRISTMAS 2003
"My efforts have been to make it better for visitors at Calhoun where my son has been transferred to. The visitation area is too small for the number of visitors and the wait is much too long. Before Christmas my husband and I waited 1 1/2 hours to get into the visiting area because of an inept computer operator and as a result I became sick. So I have missed visiting Christmas day and the Saturday afterward. My son understands but I know he would like the visit.
I wrote Calhoun and was nice in my complaint and was delighted to see that the next Saturday my husband reported that the Sgt. was operating the computer and the wait was faster. I felt they had responded to my complaint and probably complaints of others. Their waiting area is much too small so now the effort is to having them enlarge the waiting area."
One "Wicked and Nasty Prison"
Although you seldom hear anything much about Calhoun CI, it is quietly going about its own craziness.
Apparently the warden doesn't care or this BS would not be happening! The warden is the backbone of the prison and that warden determines what kind of prison he will run - Either it is run in a professional manner or it is NOT - It's up to the warden.
Calhoun is in Region I. From various reports, there seems to be a pattern of sexual abuse in this prison, as well as throwdowns, setups, rollbacks, drugs in the food, etc., including an abundance of ill-trained guards.
There is a much told story from '96 or '97 about an inmate who was assigned to walking one of the guard dogs. The new guard in the tower spots the two and apparently thinks he sees an inmate escape in progress, levels his rifle, shoots...and kills the guard dog by mistake. Now they joke, don't take the job of walking the dog or you might be killed for it.
KEEPING UP WITH
HORACE HANKERSON
Naming Probably Errant Guards:
C/O Janice Mayo and her 'Bad Boy Squad'.
Reportedly this woman screams, cusses, and slaps inmates. She has her own crew who has reportedly cuffed and beaten inmates in the hole.
Illegal Procedures:
RE: Notices that are required to be put up by DOC:
There was a notice from a Senator Virginia Brown-Waite. It stated that if any Inmate was beaten or mistreated, they should write her and let her know about it.
Well, that notice, like so many before and since, only stayed up for about an hour before the guards took it down so the Inmates could not read it.
If the DOC's emphatic statements that nothing is remiss in Florida's prisons were the truth, this kind of secrecy would not be so standard in the DOC.
INTRA-PRISON TRANSFERS
RE: CALHOUN MISINFORMATION
"THE CLASSIFICATION OFFICER at Calhoun CI is reportedly telling prisoners that "IN THE PANHANDLE THE RULE IS YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE PRISONS FOR THREE YEARS AND D.R. FREE FOR THREE YEARS."
The actual rules read THAT YOU HAVE TO BE IN A PRISON FOR A YEAR AND D.R FREE FOR THAT YEAR. CAN ANYONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THE RULES HAVE CHANGED AGAIN?"
There was a recent rule change.
NEW RULES EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 4th, 200233-601.215 Classification - Transfer of Inmates.
Upon completion of the reception process, each inmate shall be assigned and transferred to the institution approved by the State Classification Team that might best facilitate his institutional progress. Inmates may subsequently be transferred from one institution to another; however, the goal of the classification system is to retain inmates at institutions for longer periods of time in order to reduce transfers and stabilize the inmate population. Inmates participating in academic, vocational, substance abuse or betterment programs will not be transferred to another institution prior to completion of the program unless the program is available at the receiving institution, or for purposes of population management or security and safety concerns specifically set forth in writing. Transfers are subject to review by the inmate grievance procedure.

Immoral Behavior
Because ANYTHING done on state time
IS the business of the citizens footing the bills!
Let me tell you a story about the woman guard who worked at Calhoun, who's husband also worked there. She was reportedly having an affair with one of the Inmates.
Needless to say, when the affair was discovered, she was moved to a different Institution. But, as usual, the Inmate did not fare so well. He was beaten almost to death by the guards and was moved very quickly before anyone could see him.
The story has it that the unfortunate lover was beaten by Mayo and her crew down in lock up.
Guard threats:
Someone wrote, "...And the guards told me that I was lucky I didn't live instate, or my kids would be coming for my body." That statement reminded me of the guard who said, "If Kay Lee's first name was inmate, she'd be dead by now".
Even not-so-bright Florida guards surely know murdering a civilian is far more dangerous than murdering an inmate.
So, here we are, still "pulling their chains..." ...And will continue to do so until a real effort at reform is forthcoming!
