The following link will probably be here awhile. Families continue to be increasingly alarmed about the weight loss and health problems their loved ones are suffering due to lack of decent food in Florida's prisons since Jeb Bush signed the contract with Aramark. This food service company has a history of complaints against them a mile long. Even guards agree - They fear for their safety when prisoners go hungry. The food remains a problem.

So the FDOC employees have a lot of parties. So they drink until until the wee hours of the morning. What's that have to do with us? Nothing, as long as they are off duty... UNLESS we're driving the same highways that they are going home on.

Apalachee used to be a relatively quiet place but not anymore. From what I've been told, awhile back a group of FSP officers were transferred to Apalachee CI. I've been receiving reports of trouble ever since. According to many Region 1 and Region II officers trouble seems to follow the New Region I Director Allen Clark and his crew of ballplayers. Read all about his recent 'resignation' followed by the federal bust of he and some of his ballplayers.

The warden at Homestead CI ordered a female prisoner to mutilate herself in probable retaliation for the inmate's efforts to expose an MRSA outbreak at the prison.

On top of medical fees, triple phone costs, travel to far away places to visit their loved ones, and a myriad of other expenses, families are now expected to cover 'banking fees' for the FDOC. Oh sure, the new legislation is couched in terms of 'inmate fees' but everybody knows who pays.

It's unbelievable that we've funded a drug war for 60 years without ever asking what the major victory has been. Drugs are plentiful, more kids use now at younger ages than ever before, and prohibition laws can't even keep drugs out of the deepest recesses of prison. What's really going on and isn't it time to try a better way?

A lot of new stories on Union CI have come in lately. One of particular interest concerns P.R.I.D.E. industries and how they capitalize on inmate labor. In a detailed report by Lolit Jean Sloan and her husband Robert, we take a look at the shyster practices and dangerous environment of this 'non-profit' labor force at Union CI.

It's time to reevaluate laws (and the people who write them) that make so many criminals. It is time to change a system that incarcerates criminals for so long that it loses its point. It's way past time to stop supporting prison agendas that fail to rehabilitate offenders, and thereby fail to provide us the real safety should expect. We spend more than enough to deserve the best.

    ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

    LOLIT's ONGOING PROJECTS

The families have taken a lot of blows from an unconcerned system. It's like, without research to prove loved ones are the cause of all the problems; without laws allowing us to deem them guilty, we've decided that we have the right to punish them for loving a person in prison anyway. MTWT's Family section has moved and had a makeover. Check is out.

It has come to our attention that many of the prisons in Florida are not being provided proper footwear.  Prisoners from various institutions  are reporting holes in their shoes,  ill-fitting shoes, and a total lack of shoes.  Families have reported seeing the proof of this in some of the prison visiting rooms. We need 50 prisoners who need properly fitting shoes to sign onto a list we will present to the DOC, who has agreed to investigate the problem if even one prisoner gave his name. Well, we know there is safety in numbers.

    • Over 50% of children put into the adult system DO re-offend.

    FLORIDA WARDEN LISTS

NOTE JANUARY 27, 2993: Secretary of 'Corrections', "Jimmy" Crosby, made a lot of changes when the governor gave him the power to do so in early January 2003. When Crosby went to prison, Sec. James McDonough had to make a lot of changes when many bad apples were fired. We don't yet know what Sec. McNeil will do, but because wardens tend to be shuffled around nearly as often as the inmates, the warden lists quickly become outdated. They no longer provide warden's names on the DoC pages, so I attempt to provide that information by keeping updated lists onsite.

    PLEASE...WRITE THE INMATES!

"You know - I can take the cardboard food, I can take being locked up and treated like a dog sometimes by the COs; I can take the rain leaking through the ceiling on my head, but till you started writing to me - I was the loneliest soul in the world and that was the hardest thing of all to take. Now - the leaking ceiling isn't so bad, the cardboard food tastes a little better, and I get to see the look on the CO's face when he hands me my mail and he sees SOMEBODY out there cares about me."

    ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The Florida Legislators knowingly trampled the constitution when they wrote a law to benefit the FDOC that interferes with webmasters in the free world who put prisoners and 'free' people who want to write them in touch with each other. They thumbed their noses at judgements denying the legality of similar laws and rules in AZ. and CA. Its part of the effort to deny access to prisoners from the time they go in until the time they leave. That way, whatever criminal behavior by guards crop up, nobody knows.

Face Facts! We're all adults here.
There is no need for a Prisoner PenFriend Ban but
    THEY DID IT ANYWAY!

NOTE: The DOC will enforce this totally unconstitutional and unnecessary ban forbidding websites like mine from putting ads soliciting penpals for prisoners onsite and force me to comply under threat of DRs and confinement for the prisoners. Therefore, I am not posting penfriend ads, but the people on this site and myself would hope that you will feel free to write anyone named. That is why we've included addresses.

Most prisoner stories on this site has the DoC number (6 digits after the name). Florida does move prisoners around A LOT so you should always double check the DOC site for the current prison and address of anyone you want to write.

Contact from the outside is many times the only thing that  stops some guards from taking illegal actions. All research says it is healthy for a prisoner's rehabilitation to stay in contact with concerned people on the outside. And prisoners who can look forward to outside contact are easier for the officers to handle. It's called a Reward System, which Florida has failed to be concerned about. So everybody benefits if a prisoner maintains contact with outside family and friends - except bad guards.

If you see a story that you want to know more about; if you want to help prevent a guard from using unnecessary and excessive force;  if you want to raise the spirits or encourage a prisoner in his recovery;  or if you just want professionalism from those paid with public money to be the keepers of people in prison, by all means,
Feel Free - Adopt a Prisoner.

    WRITING TO DEATH ROW

I advise you to use simple common sense
when you make your decision to write to prisoners:

    1.  Don't send money you can't afford to give away.
    2.  Don't send money to a prisoner any faster than you would to any free world stranger.
    3.  If you are concerned by these sorts of things, double check any needy story from a prisoner just as you would in the free world.
    4.  Don't talk sex with a prisoner if you don't want to.
    5.  Rent a PO Box if you are uncomfortable with a prisoner having your address.

    Unnecessary Proposal Becomes Illegal Rule!

You are much more in charge than the prisoner.
    Take your own responsibility.
It's what is expected of a free adult citizen!

    The Invisible Mailman

    The strangest thing happened today,
An invisible mailman passed my way,
He handed me an envelope that just wasn't there.
An invisible mailman, you know it's quite rare.

I opened the envelope so very wide,
To find less than nothing deep inside.
The smell was so faint, as I recall.
In fact, there was no smell at all.

The writing was so neat and so very clean,
So crystal clear that it couldn't be seen.
I read the words that I expected to be there,
But, all I could see was invisible air.

I need to hear sweet words, only from you.
But the letter I wanted never came through.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still deeply in love,
That will never end, it comes from above.

So, I'm writing you back, with love you can bet,
Saying thanks for the letter that I never did get.
I hope very soon, you'll think twice,
And pay close attention to this bit of advise.

I'm locked up, but only for now,
All things change, some where, some how!
I could be out there where things are much better,
    With your ass in here,
    Expecting a letter!!!!

    About Innocence

    Statistics of Innocence in Florida

    SUSPECTED CASES OF INNOCENT PEOPLE
    Living In Florida Prisons

More than two and a half million Americans now live in prison. Two and a half million people whose families are being punished as if they, too, had committed a crime. About 70% of the inmates are non-violent; about a quarter of them were mentally ill when they were sent to prison; over 65% of them are offenders of the prohibition laws; anywhere from an estimated 1% to as high as 25% are innocent of their charges, and only about 3% of them are repeatedly vicious.

All, from the least to the greatest, even the innocents and the peaceful pot smokers snagged in s very unbalanced system are treated as a subhuman species who have done something unforgivable to people who demand forgiveness for themselves; ignored by people who say "inmates deserve anything they get"; and mistreated by those paid and sworn to keep them safely and rehabilitate them.

Least we forget, as we ignore what the inmate suffers, we are also ignoring what is happening to those serving as their keepers and to the hearts of society. In many ways, everyone on this side of the cell doors are becoming just as 'criminal' as those we deem less fitting than ourselves! If we do not force prison workers to be accountable under law, we are condoning lawlessness, which makes our prisons a hypocritical separation of the wheat and the chaff.

If you want to be safer on the street, make sure the system is really pursuing rehabilitation and CORRECTION. Rather prisoners are released in worse shape than they went in or not, you are the one who pays. You may as well demand your money's worth.

    NOTE:

This 'inside/outside the walls' project is a gamble, one that cannot be avoided: Either those who just don't know will be appalled and help make prisons the healing place they need to be for our own public safety; or, as the errant guards warn them, these inmates will be ignored or automatically labeled liars. "Who they gonna believe?" smugly asks the errant guard: "You or Me?" If our faith in our fellowman is misplaced, the unchecked guard retaliation could be unbearable for many of them.

The changes have already started: With 2 million people being mass warehoused in United State's prisons, there's too many people comparing notes. Already very few people are still denying the problems inside are immensely real: They just aren't sure yet how to fix the mess we've ignored for so long.

I have great faith in the goodness of man and know that real healing can only come when the painful truth emerges.
