Registration Information

Registration Information

Registration begins on Week 1 of the structured classes (Puppy, Basic, Pre-Novice/Advanced Basic, Intro to Agility) as listed on the calendar. Check our schedule page for current listings. Please contact the DTCT webmaster to verify that a class is still available. Occasionally, changes are made at the last minute and the schedule doesn't reflect all current classes.

Registrants should come 20-30 minutes prior to scheduled class time to register and bring proof of current vaccination (Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella/Kennel Cough). Registraion forms are available at the club, and will soon will available online.

The first night is a working orientation, so you can bring your dogs.

Class Information

Puppy Class - for puppies from age 12 weeks to 6 months. In some cases, small breed puppies over 6 months can be placed into the Puppy class at owner request or instructor recommendation.

Basic Obedience - for dogs 6 months of age and older. This is where the 'first time dogs' go. Occasionally, dogs under 6 months old can be accepted into Basic if they have graduated from a DTCT Puppy Class. This will be based upon instructor approval.

Advanced Basic/Pre-Novice - the next level after Basic Obedience. This class will sharpen their obedience skills, teach the beginnings of off-lead work, as well as prepare them for competition obedience.

Intro To Agility (1 and 2) - for dogs 6 months of age and older. This is where the 'first time dogs' go. It is recommended that your dog have basic obedience training prior to taking Agility classes.

Equipment

All dogs must be on a 6 foot leash made of leather, fabric or nylon. No chain leashes or retractable (Flexi) leashes under any circumstances. Collars can be any type from flat buckle, chain choke, martingale, prong (pinch) collar, or head collar. If you are not sure what type of collar to use, bring the dog in wearing its "regular" collar on the first night and your instructor will make recommendations for you. The training collar must be designated for that purpose. It cannot have identification tags on it, or any other ornamentation. Dogs should only wear their training collars while training - no bandannas or extra collars, as these can be distracting and/or interfere with the proper functioning of the training collar.

All of our trainers use positive training techniques and encourage the use of rewards during training. Feel free to bring small, easily consumed treats to use during training classes.

Handlers must wear appropriate shoes at all times when training at the club. No sandals, flip flops or slick-soled shoes will be permitted in the training rings at any time for safety reasons.
