Kemper's Childhood

Return to main page

As a child, Edmund Kemper III, was disturbed and unloved. His mother found him to be a "freak", and was off doing her own thing. On his free time, his favorite game to play was a game he made up with his sister, where she would tie him to a chair and he would pretend he was dying in a gas chamber. And, if that wasn't enough, he also mutilated and dismembered his two family cats. He put one of the cat's heads on his shelf as a trophy for all to see. The other one? Well, he just stuffed it's remains in his closet. One day, while his dear mother was cleaning his closet, she found the limbs of her missing cats. So, as a punishment she sent Kemper to live with his grandparents on a farm in Northern California. At the somewhat young age of 14, he shot and repeatedly stabbed his grandmother. Not wanting to deal with his grandfather's reaction, he killed him too. When asked by authorities as to why he would do such a thing, he simply replied, "I just wanted to know what it would feel like to shoot Grandma".
