1952 Wayne Behrns 2002

Wayne served aboard the Lewis from March 1952 to March 1955 as a Sonarman. He was one of the first two enlisted men assigned to the Lewis prior to commissioning in 1952.

Chi chi Jima 1953 The thing that made Chichi Jima interesting was the fact that it was bypassed during the Pacific Campaign and all Japanese fortifications were as they were when first built. It gave one an idea of what it would have been like to take a Japanese fortified island. There were tunnels cut in solid rock that ran completely through the mountains that one could drive a semi truck through.
In the photo are from left rear Fletcher, Small, Rohrabaugh, from front left Saunders, Miller, Foust, Edwards
