UNION INJUSTICE
Bogus "Escape Attempt"

On March 1st, nine men who work in the Union maintenance shop were accused of plotting an escape attempt.  What was the evidence?  Plumbing blueprints in the shop exactly where the blueprints belonged, and the word of a snitch, who now seems to be the recipient of 'special favor'.  Absolutely nothing else indicates any of them were foolish enough to do what the snitch and Union CI has accused them of doing.

Of the nine men, only one seems to have escaped initial punishment.  Without any other 'proof' than the snitch's letter to Tallahassee (and the possible involvement of one of the nine prisoner's roommate, reports from families state that the remaining eight men were scattered throughout the DOC and reports of beatings or fears of abuse at FSP have been coming in. We do believe we have the names of the two men who may have had a hand in orchestrating the bogus charge and are pursuing their involvement.

Since the initial event, the families of the 8 men have not had contact with their prisoner [as of March 10th] and of course, families fears are running high. The plumber, William Taylor, still being charged and punished. He has been transferred further from his family from Union to confinement at Gulf CI.  The following is his wife's frantic report on the pain this is causing her and husband.

Saturday, March 1, 2003

My husband was just locked up at UCI because **a snitch [maybe two] wrote an anonymous kite saying that there was an attempted escape plot in the maintenance shop and claiming that a weapon was supposed to be part of this.

They locked up 9 guys and my husband, who has been a Union prisoner plumber for 17 years,  was one of them.  [First they let one go] Now I am told that they are letting seven more of those guys out and keeping my husband in confinement, because they found a map of the institution in his shop.

Well of course the plumbing shop has blue prints of the place, how else would they know where all the pipes are?

I don't know which way to turn on this Kaylee, My husband is innocent, I know him well enough to know he wouldn't do anything this stupid.

I just wanted you to know that, although they didn't find a thing, they transferred all the guys they locked up for the attempted escape.  They transferred my husband all the way to the panhandle to Gulf CI.  I am going to try to fight it, but you know how that goes.  I am sick about the whole thing.  They didn't find a thing to charge any of them with, but they are using all of them as scapegoats so the damn FDLE won't look like fools after doing an investigation with nothing to back up the charges.

I am reporting the following at the request of Mr. Taylor's wife.

WHAT KIND OF JUSTICE IS THIS?

I got a copy of the incident report yesterday from the Inspector General's office and it tells everything that took place. Oh, yes, I have developed a fire in my spirit:  It is called hating the DOC with a passion.

My husband is still locked up and the inspector general's office in Tallahassee, won't tell me why.  They just say for security reasons, and that the investigation is still incomplete.

They never charged him with anything, no DR, no nothing, and yet still transferred him 250 miles from me, when they promised to keep him in Region 2.  No one will tell me anything.

I spoke to an Inspector Waddell, and she was very very rude and nasty to me about the whole thing. I told her I was under strict Dr's care for several medical problems and she basically said tough!!  She would not transfer my husband back this way.  (Region 2).  She was very disrespectful to me.  Had me in tears.

Why do these people in power have to be so cruel to the inmates' families?  I am tired of being treated like an inmate.  All I did is love a man in prison, and now I get treated like I was the criminal.  It is not fair.

We all live in fear of our loved ones being retaliated against every time we speak up.  We can not allow this to continue.  Please post my updated story about Inspector Waddell's response to my phone call to her, and how she treated me with such disrespect. All I know, is that the corruption has to stop in the Florida prisons.  Let people know not to be afraid to report things that aren't right.

Please use my name, and my husband's, because I am tired of being quiet and letting the DOC walk all over us.  His name is William Taylor 237932 and he is an innocent victim of the corruption that goes on at UCI.  Please tell this lawyer the story and ask him or her if they think we should or could file suit on the FDLE and the DOC on this one?

I am ready to take this crap public, so other people will know how corrupt this state is.  I am so sick of it, Kay Lee, I just don't know what to do anymore.  If you don't speak up, things happen to the inmates anyway, and if you do, they happen, so it is a lose-lose situation, and I can't sit around doing nothing anymore.

They took the love of my life far away from me, for no reason, now I am fighting mad and will do anything it takes to show them they just can't do things to people who don't deserve it and get away with it.  So yes, use my name and my e-mail.  I hope people do contact me, I could use the support.
Thanks so much
Lori Taylor

I just received an e-mail from Warden Don Davis's secretary, a Bonita Howard, I had e-mailed  him yesterday and told him if he didn't tell me everything I needed to know about this escape attempt and why my husband is still locked up at Gulf, that I would go to an attorney and go to every newspaper that would hear my story, and the response to my e-mail was, "if you want to know anything, call the inspector general's office."  I already did that, and no one will tell me anything.  I haven't heard a word from my husband, and the new picture of him on the DOC offender site, looks like he might have been [roughed up].  I just don't know what to do about this.

Wednesday, March 12, 2003

I found out today that Col Coleman at UCI had a big part in setting up the guys involved in the bogus 'escape attempt'.  He called and bragged about it to the Col. at Gulf CI and the officers in the AC dorm told my husband.

Col. Coleman called the Col. there at Gulf CI and told all kinds of lies about my husband, and he has already been cussed at and abused verbally.  They told my husband that he already has two strikes against him and the word is out all over the compound that he is no good and all this crap.  He has only been there a little over a week, and been locked up the whole time and already been abused.

Also , they are finished with the investigation and yet still, my husband remains on lock up.

I called the inspector general's office again and told him everything I am telling you, and he said he would investigate the whole thing.  It smells rotten to him he said. I may need the name of that attorney you told me about that does pro bono work,

I have to get my husband out of Gulf, he is in big danger there, and I am afraid they may do to him what Frank Valdez had done to him a few  years ago.  I need your help on this one, Kay Lee.

I got two letters from him today and Kay, he sounds suicidal.  He is so unhappyWILLIAM TAYLOR DOC Inmate Photo there, and being treated like poison by the officers in the Administrative Confinement.  I just have to do something before they hurt him real bad or kill him.  I feel it coming in my heart of hearts.  I am scared to death. My husband is a good man.  He kept to himself and stayed out of trouble all these years and didn't do anything to deserve what happened to him in the past few weeks.

Please, I am begging you to help me save my husband from being beaten severely or even worse, killed.  I am so scared for him, I just don't know what to do to help him all by myself, can you help?
Thanks

ITEM OF INTEREST Feb 12: "I just want to let  you know that I heard that Col. Coleman was arrested over this past weekend, no one seems to know why, so you may want to check this out.  He was seen at UCI over the weekend, so he may have gotten out on bail.  I don't know anything else."

Would you be so kind as to tell me who provided the false information that I was arrested this past weekend?

Please retract all information regarding me in reference to my alleged arrest this past weekend.

Failure to print a retraction on your website and to any Department of Corrections personnel, as well as the Governor's office, may result in litigation.  If you must know, I was playing a part in a fund raiser on Friday March 7,2003 in which bail money was raised on my behalf.

So I would greatly appreciate a retraction  of this attempt to disgrace my name and position.

Thanks

I will put this onsite as I'm always looking for truth.  My information comes from so many sources and I cannot remember that particular one.  I never name sources anyway, but will definitely put your information onsite.

"Inspector Tim Yaw at the Inspector General's office said the reason they locked my husband up was an interception of one of Billy's letters that they thought had something in there about an escape, but they know now, it didn't. Can you believe the stupidity of the DOC?

RETRACTION: The inspector also said that Col. Coleman was called by the Col. at Gulf CI, not the other way around, like I first was told. But I still think that Bully of a man was responsible for all the damage caused to all 9 of the inmates to begin with. This is just conjecture, but many people say he has a real shady reputation. I think he had a big hand in setting my husband up in the first place. No one can tell me different. I just feel it in my gut."

RESPONSE TO MR. TAYLOR'S STORY

Mrs. Taylor has supplied the following information.  If you have a moment, please contact someone on the list, just ask for information on the investigation into the Union "Escape Attempt" or into the condition of William Taylor.

If you can put yourself into Mr. and Mrs. Taylor's shoes, you'll understand the blessing of hope you can give them with just a short note of encouragement in their struggle for truth and justice in the DOC.

UPDATE:
Thursday, March 13, 2003

Inspector Tim Yaw at the Inspector General's office said the reason they locked my husband up was an interception of one of Billy's letters that they thought had something in there about an escape, but they know now, it didn't. Can you believe the stupidity of the DOC?

Inspector Yaw is a very nice nice man, and please say that when you write about him.  He was very gracious to me.  And he made me feel so much better.

I didn't realize you were sending the story to so many of the big wigs in the DOC. I hope I am not going to get my husband killed over all this publicity, but the people in this state have to know how much corruption goes on in this Dept. And the only way to get it out there is to write it all down for everyone to see.

I already got an e-mail from a nice woman with some supportive things to say.  I felt so good after I read it.  Thanks for all you have done, and I know there is a nice place for you up in heaven someday, for helping all of us down here deal with all the corruption in the DOC.  I'll keep you updated if something goes wrong.
God bless  Lori

Latest on bogus escape situation

Wednesday, March 19, 2003

I have still not heard from my husband, and no one will return my phone calls.  I just e-mailed the Warden at Gulf CI and demanded he tell me why my husband is still locked up and how he is and why they are holding his mail.  I told him if he did not let me know, I will come down there and bring my attorney and won't leave until they show me my husband for myself.

I am so worried about Billy.  I really do fear for his life.  I got an e-mail back from the Lt Gov's office today from a Judy Belcher  (Belcherjudy@mail.dc.state.fl.us)  and she seems like she doesn't believe he is a victim of a snitch's letter.

Belcher said she found out he was transferred for "security reasons"  That is such a stupid term for saying  "for absolutely nothing"  She said she forwarded my letter to the inspector general's office and the Warden of Gulf CI, and wished me luck.  So we can see that the Lt Gov doesn't give a flying fig about any of us either.

Is there one person in Florida who will have the balls to help us fight this corruption?  I am so sick of this whole thing.  It is physically making me sick too.  I just want to say the hell with it all, but I know I can't give up now.  It has gone too far.  I guess I need a good dose of positive encouragement.

The latest update

So far I have either e-mailed or called at least 50 people within the DOC and the government, and no one has been able to help me find out why my husband is still locked up.  I am tired of the fight and I am stepping back, I have run out of contacts and he is still locked up.  I hate to tell you this Kay, but fighting the system alone doesn't work.  And apparently, pissing them off by putting it all on your website, hasn't worked either.  So I quit. I just don't have any more strength to go this alone.  No one has offered any help to me, and I just can't cry anymore tears.

Thursday April 17, 2003

I sent Billy some legal mail on April 7th and the DOC isn't supposed to read legal mail unless the inmate is present.  Not only did they read the mail, but they sent it to the inspector's office, and he said Billy couldn't have it.  It was the incident report about him from UCI, so there is no reason he couldn't have it.  It is just another way to retaliate against us.

I want it to be put on the site so everyone can see what they are doing to us.  It just keeps getting worse and worse, and he is still locked up and no one can do anything to help us at all.

Thursday, April 22, 2003

The most serious thing, is that gulf wouldn't let him have his legal mail.  They opened it without him being present, and then sent it to the inspector at Gulf, and he decided Billy couldn't have it.  They waited two weeks to let him know they were sending it back to me, and they sent a paper to let me know why they wouldn't let him have it and it says that the mail, which was the incident report from UCI on Billy's part of the inspection, was detrimental to the institution, and could start a riot!!!!  Can you believe that?  This is really getting out of hand the way they are treating us at Gulf CI.  He is still locked up, this makes two months since he arrived there, and is still locked up.  He is constantly being harassed by the Colonel there.  Colonel  comes to Billy's cell and just smirks and laughs, and Billy is still being shackled every time he leaves his cell, like a friggin dog.  So if you would post all this to his site, I would appreciate it, as my inspector friend said he will be safer there, if it is kept public.
