AN 'OFFICER' SPEAKS FOR HIMSELF

"OMG, and he actually has a job with that vocabulary and sentence structure? Sigh... Only from DOC.  I apologize for my mood, it is late, but this actually has me in uncontrollable laughter. Oh, $#!+, is this guy for real?  His intelligence must have been the reason for the promotion to Officer. Now I do need that drink!" GL

Hello Allen Perry

It's taken me awhile to respond, but now that Christmas is over, I have a little more time to catch up on old business.  I'm going to post your letter as is because I think it speaks for itself.  Lolits, do you have any comments for Mr. Perry?

hello i am a officer my self at a youthful offender camp and i just want to say you might want to grab a drink and use the bathroom before reading this cause it is going to be a long email.

well lets start shall we. first issue the shoes all inmates upon entering a state correctional facility are issued a pair of shower slides, a pair of canvas shoes, and a pair of brogans (boots). they are in good shape because lets face it they are not going to get brand new everything because taxpayers do not want to fund the DOC. the inmates at youthful offender camps abuse the shoes and never turn them in.

second because the taxpayers think they are paying too much for inmates why dont they look at the real problem in that the state is in a budget crisis because more and more people are entering prison ! and the money we get is the same every year so do the math.

as for the clothes they are issued three sets of blues 3 shirts and 3 pants 1 belt and 1 hat to where on there head. the hats they steal markers and grafitti them so we have to take them from them and when you keep destroying the supplies eventually you are going to run low so my question to you is why keep supplying the inmates with new property when they keep destoying it. i mean you shoudl think before you open your mouth.

they are also issued 4 boxers and 4 tshirts white. they shred the tshirts to make footlocers lining boot rags to polish boots and doorags for there heads. okay another officer told me that they have to have something to where on there head well i hate to break the sunshine to you but they invented something called a hat which we issue to them they destroy it and we take it so once again do the math.

with the aramark food yeah it doesnt look appitizing but shit according to what you are talking about l! ets just start letting them order out from resturants i mean because you know it is not like they did anything wrong to go to prison i mean shit they are all innocent. i think we should spoil them is what your telling everybody but hello they are in prison because they broke the law.

oh whats that did you realize that inmates get satilite television damn sounds pretty good figureing i only have basic cable. so what else do you want to bitch about with out going into an actual prison. the parents of inmates also need to understand that there kids appearence is up to him he chooses to look good or like shit when he gets visitors we are not baby sitters.

well i am going to end this because my hands are starting to hurt from all the typing if you respond then i know you read this if you dont respond that is because you know i am right and you are afraid to admit it.

Mr. Perry:

This letter does not necessarily address the numerous points of your letter.  I would like to take advantage of the moment and address the unprofessional attitudes of some correction officials.  I applaud you for coming forward to reveal what many correction officers think and believe. You already know how parents and friends of incarcerated individuals think and believe. It is unfortunate that the attitude of your letter is one of negativity. We all know that people are in prison for breaking the law, that is a given. Why they broke the law is certainly a matter of various opinions.

What it all boils down to is a matter of maturity, security and respect. Some people never grow up whether in prison, in uniform or on the streets. Young people are very impressionable and respond to actions of supposed mature adults. Most human beings incarcerated or not are negatively responsive to unprofessional behavior and positively responsive to professional behavior. Correction officers are supposed to be mature, secure, respectful and respected. Your position allows the young people to see how adults are supposed to act.  Are you setting a good example?  Perhaps someday you or a loved one may be in the same position as the people you have in your charge. The "Golden Rule" has merit in all situations.

My hope and prayer for you and your peers is that you remember your God when you deal with his handiwork. How you judge so you will be judged.  DR Andrews

Dear Mr. Perry,

With the attitude problem that you seem to have concerning the youthful offenders, I would think that you really do not belong in your job that you now have.  I for one would not like to know that a person with your attitude would be guarding a youth of mine.  You give the impression that you were never a child yourself. Perhaps you were abused as a child to make you the person that you are.  Maybe it wouldn't hurt for you to have some rehabilitation yourself that would change your attitude and help you to know how to handle the job that you were hired to do, knowing that you catch more flies with sugar than vinegar.

Do you also mistreat these youthful offenders? ( In the event that you don't know the meaning of the word mistreat...it means abuse.) It does seem that alot of the guards have the same problem that you do in handling youths or the actual adult person that has gone to prison for one reason or another. People like you are the one apple that spoils the whole barrel and causes many to think that all guards are like you. We surely can not expect that our youths will come out of the camp where you are with much improvement if all of the people there treat them and feel the way you do.

You certainly have very little education yourself or you would know better than to send a letter to Kaylee like the one you sent. We did receive alot of humor in someone with little or no education who writes such a letter concerning our youths or tax payers that pay your salary.  Believe me that if we could do the research to hire a guard for the system we would be very careful as to who was going to take care of our youths, plus the guards for the entire prison system period.  It seems to give each of you and people just like you a swollen head to have a little authority over human beings.

YES...I said HUMAN BEINGS. They are human beings and what happens in that camp for youthful offenders will have alot to do with their actions when they are returned to their families. It hurts us to know that there are people like you within the system.  It also makes us know that the system, whether youthful offenders or inmates in the prison system, needs better people than you are to overlook what is supposed to be rehabilitation while in the care of the State of Florida.

Sincerely,
Lillian of the Florida LOLITS.

Mr. Perry,  I have a few comments concerning your "hateful" E-mail.  We need to forward your letter to the DOC so Mr. Crosby can personally review your comments and know what caliber of person is being hired into the system.  Good luck on keeping your job, if in fact you are a CO.  By the way, my loved one is not a youthful offender.  If you're an example of a CO, I praise the good Lord that he's not at your facility.  I have a good friend who is a CO at an adult facility, and she verifies that there are COs in the system exactly like you.  She prays for them on a regular basis and encourages them to respond in a professional manner no matter what the case.   In spite of your comments, I know our Lord loves every person.  In your case, I find it difficult to accept that, but God bless you anyway.

Hello!
Who in gods name is this a$$hole?  This is a correctional officer? This is what my tax dollars pay for?  You need to find a new job. Tell me Mr Perry did you attend school at any point in your life? From what I'm reading it sounds like you lack education. I bet the young men at the camp you claim to work at have far more education than you're showing us with this letter of yours.

Please don't speak for the taxpayers. I'm sure they can speak for themselves. They abuse the shoes because they are KIDS that's the key word. From what we, the taxpayer see, the DOC gets more and more money each year and the inmates get less and less. Starting with bad food to being abused by a$$holes like you.

You have the nerve to say that WE should think before WE speak. Are you joking or are you really that much of a Dummy? I have always been told that a good 85% of correctional officers are lacking in the education department and boy you are showing us that. The DOC needs to get some officers who have a lot more education than you.

At this work camp you are dealing with KIDS, not adults. Innocent or not they should be able to eat food that is eatable, not the crap the DOC and Aramark is feeding them. Why don't you try some of the food?  Or maybe your family would like to try it. Only less than two weeks ago inmates at union became ill eating that food served by Aramark. And that was just the last in a long chain of food poisonings.

It's officers like you that give a bad name to the rest. Yes, thank you for ending your letter. I don't think there is anyone here that could have taken much more of your lack of education. Good god, I hope you're not anyone's father. And Mr. Perry, try night school and get yourself a dictionary.

I get upset when I read email from people like this and to know he's a correctional officer even gets me going more.

Mr Perry,
I would first like to say that your work in the Youthful Offender section of a prison can explain some of the  frustration and aggravation you expressed to us. My husband spent his first year of incarceration in the youthful offender section because he was only 19 and was counting down the days that he could go over to the adult side. He said all there was all day every day was fighting, stealing, and disrespect on the part of the inmates, and hateful verbally abusive sometimes violent treatment from the officers. Your job is a tough one, I know, I worked in a moderate risk Juvenile facility for girls, as well as the Volusia juvenile detention center several years ago. The attitude of the parents can also be frustrating because they expect you to take care of and treat the kids the way they do, they don't realize that child is in prison.

Now, try for a moment to put yourself in my shoes. I realize it was my husband's own stupid fault for breaking the law. But now he's in jail and lost his freedom, and that should be punishment enough. If you've worked in the system for a while, you must have noticed that inmates aren't big and muscular like they used to be. My husband went from 187 when he was incarcerated to 145 at 6'2'' in the first year and a half. I was not able to send him money for canteen food, and he tried his best to eat the Aramark food, but when milk is curdled and meat is spoiled its just really tough to get it down. You know? He also has spent some time in protective custody where they did not have heat, and he was not allowed to bring his sweatshirt in the 20 degree north florida weather.

As for satelite TV, if they had that, how come every time I talk to him on the phone they are watching "FOX"?

Mr Perry, we are a part of a group fighting for a very unpopular cause. We are good, hard working tax paying citizens who love God and Love our families. Do you honestly think that we would put our time, effort and tears into fixing something that wasn't totally and completely broken? I hope you never have to deal with a family member being in prison and if you do, you are more than welcome to join us. In the meantime, maybe you should transfer over to the adult side so you can relax a little.

If we do forward this to Crosby maybe we should suggest that the officers be required to pass the test from the education class they are forcing my husband to complete. My husband said some of the  inmates are in that class for years because they can not pass that test, and if they miss class, they go to lock-down.

He could just be lying about not working there,  nervous that his comments will get him in trouble if forwarded to Tallahassee.

The reason I didn't respond to his post was because it appeared to me that he "may" have had one too many of those drinky-poos he was talking about.  And Mama always said it makes no sense to argue with a drunk...

My opinion is that he was drunk when he wrote that first post and very embarrassed when he wrote the second.

Just my unwarranted opinion.....
