Subject: Letter from Gregory Mills

Hi there,

I am a typist  with Surviving The System, typing the inmates' letters.  I do not know if Mrs. Traci Lister sent the following information to you or not, however, as I typed the letter from Gregory Mills I saw that he stated that it needed to go to you, so I am attaching it to this letter.

TO: Mrs. Lister
Attorney AND Counselor at law
P.O. Box 1860
Ridgeland, MS  39158

Dear Counselor Lister,

If you have time could you forward the enclosed letter to a beautiful angel that has been watching over us (inmates), and helping us inform the world about the FL Dept. of Correction Corruption, and abuse.

Her name is Kay Lee, and the website is http://www.angelfire.com/fl3/starke

There is no there way for me to reach her because her name is on fire among the prison administrations.  Thank you Mrs. Lister, for being such a wonderful person, and believing in inmates enough to reach out to us.  May the Almighty continue to bless you and your family and staff.

Sincerely yours,
Gregory Mills

I know that I haven’t been living up to my commitment by writing material for the youth. At the present time I am in a battle to stay alive.

I’ve made some powerful enemies by speaking out against the abuse that is taking place within the Florida Department of Corrections Close Management Units.

I was transferred from Florida State Prison on October 16, 2002, to this institution.  Before I was even transferred from F.S.P. the officers who hated me let me know that I was coming here.  Which gave me the impression that it would be some type of attempt on my life.

On July 9, 2003, the first attempt happened around 10:00 am, after myself and another inmate got into an argument.

I was removed out of my cell (03-212S) after a use of force with chemical agents but not until the Crisis Response Team came to my cell door and Lt. Mallard, ordered me to turn around and handcuff.  I followed his order.

Lt. Mallard, then ordered me to walk towards the Control Booth of the wing.  Once I reached the control booth I was told to stop.  At this time I was placed in chains, black box, and leg irons.  that’s when Officer John W. Holton, came out of the interview room and called me a “Bitch”.  I told him whomever had him were his bitch.  He is the same officer who got me sprayed with chemical agent.

Lt. Mallard then told Officer Eric Hall and John W. Holton to escort me to medical.  I advised Lt. Mallard that I was not going nowhere with these two officers.  He told me that I had "no mother fucking choice".  I knew then that I was in trouble.

I turned away from Lt. Mallard and was headed for the stairs. I stopped at the top and before I could step down. Someone pushed me in the back out of Officers Holton and Hall.  Which I believe was Holton.

As I hit the second platform on my feet with my head hitting the facing wall, jamming my neck.  I couldn’t move, and John W. Holton then grabbed the leg irons and snatched me to the ground.  That’s when Officer Hall began kicking and punching me.  As well as Holton with a couple of others.  Officer Holton then grabbed the leg irons and tried to drag me down the rest of the stairs to the bottom floor.

Then they snatched me to my feet and escorted me out the sliding doors.  As we made it to the gate that takes us to the main road going to Medical.  Holton and Hall rammed me into the gate pole.  The left side of my face striking it.

About two weeks before I was transferred to Union  C.I., from F.S.P. Capt. Riggs came to my door with Lt. Bacon and another officer from here.  They were the officers present while I was being attacked.  Lt. Bacon, Lt. Mallard, Sgt. James Taylor, Officers John Holton, Kent, Eric Hall and the Crisis Response Team officers who names I do not know.

I am being targeted by the family and friends of the same racist murderer that I left at Florida State Prison.  Col. Coleman has a racist white gang of officers who goes around beating inmates at will, especially minority inmates.

Since Crosby took over the Department of Corrections, these people have started beating inmates.

Someone needs to investigate the overall racial misconduct within the Florida Dept. of Correction, against the minority officers and inmates.  Even the minority officers are afraid to speak out against the abuse because they’ll lose their jobs.

We must remember Capt. Willie Hogan, deserves that he turned over [his journal to] the St. Petersburg Times, informing the citizens, etc. that most of the abuse committed had a lot to do with racism.

If a outside organization gives me lie detector test, I’ll put my life on the line that I pass it.

Hopefully this letter will reach the right hands of someone who cares.

Sincerely Yours,
Gregory Mills
