Hello, Kay,
Just yesterday I heard over the vents that they (Prison Officials) had sent guys from here back to Florida State Prison, supposedly for throwing their trays in the hall.
Hot food is supposed to be served hot, which it usually isn't.
Every once in a while someone is in a bad mood, or upset about something, and then they bring us a cold tray when it's supposed to be hot, and that may be all it takes to set someone off.
But this is the first time I know of anyone being sent back to F.S.P. which is the most extreme form of punishment they have.
Also, I heard of a death warrant being signed, and they moved him to F.S.P. also, but I can't recall his name.
From what I understand, he hasn't been here very long. He just gave up on his appeals and is going to let the State kill him.
What's the difference between his actions and doctor assisted suicide?
In your June 18th letter, you asked a couple couple of questions which I will now answer.
You asked about cell windows and air circulation?
One west (left: #1101-1114 and 1201-1214); Six west (right: #6115-6128 and 6215-6228) have grass outside the windows and we get a good breeze.
In between wings 1&2; 2&3; 4&5; and 5&6, are the rec. yards which are blacktop and get very hot and holds that heat all day long.
When that heat rises and a breeze comes along and it gets sucked into our windows, all that heat is coming in all day long.
Kind of like a hair drier pointed in the windows.
It's almost always 10-15 degrees hotter on 6-left than it is on 6-right.
All last year we had an officer that recorded the temperature three times a day on every wing. He's gone now and they've quit doing it. But there may be records.
You mentioned that you had found a couple of penpal lists? Yes, I would like very much to find a penpal here in Florida. Remember, we cannot write prison to prison.
Here's a suggestion that I've made to two other people, here in Florida, each of them has started and is attempting to operate an organization similar to yours.
Unite!!!
Joseph W. DuRocher, 3563 Emerywood Lane, Orlando Florida 32812, started the Citizens of Central Florida Against the Death Penalty (or something like that) several years ago; but how strong are they by themselves?
Abraham J. Bonowitz, 177 U.S. Highway #1, B-297, Tequesta, Florida 33469, started Citizens United for Alternatives to the Death Penalty. Again, how strong are they by themselves?
Unite and Organize!!!
Have you ever received or heard of F.P.L.P.? (Info enclosed). Please, contact these people and they can help spread the word.
You asked: "What ideas do you have for achieving peace for yourself and among yourselves while you do your time?
Faith in God!!
That's the only way to find peace in a place like this, or anywhere really. Every "body" will die sooner or later, but the Spirit and Soul lives on.
"Do not let your hearts
be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father's
house are many rooms: If it were not so, I would have told you.
I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare
a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also
may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."
Words of Jesus
in John 14:1-4.
I am Ready, Lord!!!
I hope (pray) that I have helped in some small way. (Planted a seed.) Looking forward to hearing from you.
Peace be with you,
Dusty
The inmates who earlier have committed suicide on death row are Manuel Colina, Samuel Rivera, Michael Durocher. The way the inmates can commit suicide is to ask for execution and let the State do it for them.
The suicidal and insane volunteers are Dan Patrick Hauser and Edward Castro.
They had both serious mental problems in need of attention and help and they were not helped, but executed instead. Their cry for help came via an expression of claim to be executed.
Instead of using psychiatric knowledge in how to deal with mentally insane inmates in pain over years of isolation and degradation, Florida solved the issue for themselves by executing them and keeping them permanently quiet.
Now the CCRC Tampa inmates are pressed into desperation, and the defense which should have protected them against this and whom they trusted, are gone.
Joseph Hobson (Aileen Wuornos lawyer), Harry Brody and J Hazen - all their litigating team was wiped out and they had to leave 10 clients in despair - one of them is Robert Trease, who now asks for execution. Denise Cook, who recently had cases up for Supreme Court.

Dear Mr. Jennings:
I am a friend of Dusty Spencer, who you represent in matters related to his death sentence. Shortly after taking office as the CCRC-M you fired Mr. Spencer's two attorneys: Harry Brody and Jeffrey M. Hazen. Whatever the reason for their firing, it was done summarily and without notice to the client. They are both gone and the client remains on Death Row with active matters pending before the Florida Supreme Court.
You should have received a letter from Mr. Spencer by now expressing his concern about representation. This letter is to underscore that concern from a lawyer's point of view.
It appears to me that the politics of your appointment have run head-on into the ethics of serving your client. If this is true in Mr. Spencer's case, I suspect there are similar problems rising in the service to other condemned clients. The dismissal of the two lawyers who have spent hundreds of hours of legal work and three years of their lives learning all the details of the Spencer appeal is the problem. Who will replace them? Career prosecutors? Mr. Spencer's Habeas Corpus Petition is pending before the Florida Supreme Court. The Initial Brief prepared by Brody and Hazen has been filed. Who will be prepared for oral argument? Will they consult with Mr. Spencer and allow him input on the issues? Can you understand the vital concerns of a person facing death when you have severed his legal lifelines? These are hardly questions to be asked to a dedicated criminal defense attorney. But your twenty years of seeking convictions and punishment of people in Florida begs the question of whether you really care.
As an attorney and citizen interested in Florida's death law procedure I expect that you will provide the highest and most accomplished service to your clients sentenced to die. You are off to a pretty bad start as far as I can tell. Your challenge is to prove to a lot of people watching that you can put the interest of clients higher than a questionable political ambition.
I thought that you would be interested in the above letter that I sent to Bill Jennings, CCRC Tampa. He has not replied.
Sincerely,
Joseph W. DuRocher

Do you have any statistics about how many people have committed suicide on death row? Or numbers on the attorneys being fired?
Thanks,
