This is for the one person who that is still looking at this very old and obsolete site

We're sorry to report but the CORE Collective of Pensacola, Florida has closed it's doors forever and is no longer even a building.

We started in June of 1999 and lasted until February of 2001. During that time, we worked on the campaign to free Mumia Abu-Jamal from prison (which he is no longer on death row, but still has a struggle ahead of him in overturning his conviction). We also started the Pensacola Food Not Bombs (which is still in operation), the Spare Change Cafe (which will re-open very soon under a different name), and helped hold together a scattered punk scene after the closing of Sluggo's in 2000 (to verying degrees of success depending on who you talk to).

Basically, we started the collective with big plans and ended up consuming ourselves with little things. Instead of protesting the world crumbling around us, we slowly crumbled trying to pay rent, utilities, and still remain friends in the process.

We started with little knowledge on how to run such an operation and learned a lot in the process, mostly the hard way. Some of us have moved on, some are no longer with us, but most of us are still here in Pensacola still working towards the same goals, but in different ways.

The building is no more, but the struggle remains, and we are still fighting just as hard as before. Maybe even harder.

Also, in case you were wondering what happened with all of our books, they are NOW being used for the Subterranean Books For Prisoners program. In this program, we send prisoners any book that they request at no cost to them. ALL OF THE BOOKS IN OUR LIBRARY WERE DONATED, so we never had need to purchase any books and our costs were kept low. Same with the Books For Prisoners Program. Postage is paid by the generocity of the many residents of Pensacola who play in bands at our benefits and attend them. Also, the patrons of Subterranean Books who help with postage out of the kindness of their hearts and in REAL ANARCHIST SOLIDARITY with those locked in state run cages.

See, we're still active. I promise. And without any compromise of our ideals, censorship, or groveling.
